Jen do you have a checklist?
It took us a long time to find this place but we stuck to our guns and got what we wanted.
We had two columns, 'essential' and 'preferable'; preferables were negotiable, essentials weren't.
Every house details sheet was first checked against the list and if it didn't meet the essentials then we didn't bother wasting time going to see them; we also spent a lot of time going round looking at the locations and outsides of houses, so could cross loads off without bothering to actually arrange viewings.
Essentials for us included things like:
Decent parking, whether on a drive or plenty on the road.
Garage (but attached to the house was 'preferable' - what we've got is a garage in a block at the end of our little road).
Shop within easy walking distance - you don't want to be getting the car out to get the paper or a pint of milk - and what if you're snowed in, which we have been.
You get the idea - it wasn't a very long list but focused our minds on what really mattered and what might not, if the house was nice enough
