What is it with .....

Postby TheOstrich » 29 Sep 2014, 12:45

.... these wretched spiders this year? They are going berserk round here!

We have one that has spun a complete web right across our neighbours' back passage (which he rarely uses) - you can see it glistening in the morning dew. Must be at least 3 feet across.

Then there's the one I'm trying to dissuade from spinning a web across our front door. Big fanged one and I've batted him into the rosemary bush at least three times now.

Every time we use the rotary dryer out back, I have to clear about 20 small webs from between the lines.

And this morning, I inadvertently walked too close to a road sign on the estate and finished up with an unintended hairnet!

It's one of the reasons I now always take down my rotary drier and put it back in the shed with the cover on

But there are quite a few spiders this year aren't there. I thankfully don't have that many in the house (not that I mind them too much) but I really have to watch where I'm walking when in the garden because I also don't like that "unintended hairnet" but equally don't want to destroy the amazing webs that have been spun; some are amazing.

I've noticed some really weird webs over the common, usually on gorse bushes. I'm not a country girl so they're probably quite normal but I've never seen anything like them before. It's also as though someone's draped 20 denier white tights around the bushes, the webs are that tightly woven, and there are small brown dots (eggs??) on them.

The inceys were hard at it again last night; every third downstairs window was festooned with webs this morning.

This house is looking more like The Addams Family residence every day! :D

Conkers is what you need, Ossie, conkers. Get yourself out conkering and conker those incies.

Place them around the house and you will be spider and daddy long-legs free.

WM, we've got more conkers in the house than you can shake a stick at!! (see earlier Conkers thread).

The inceys couldn't give an orang-utang about them. They're too preoccupied feasting on the daddy long-legs. It's carnage out there ...... :o

At least the big fanged one has given up on the front door. He's now re-decorating the security light .....
