ewwww Frank - gross!!!!

I remember years back when I was still in SA, I was out for an evening (and yes - I was about 25 then and rather very much tiddled) and someone ordered Escargot and asked if I wanted to try some and I said yes!!!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o :o Surprisingly it wasn't too bad, just lots of garlic (at this point I should have realised that being a tad tiddled was a lie - I was drunk!!!)

anyway, fast forward a year or so and my then downstairs neighbour invited me to a dinner party and guess what the starter was.... Escargot. So bearing in mind last experience I bravely accepted my portion - after all it's just lots of garlic right??? Well, I had one - it was fine; had another- it was so so.... and then about to spear nr 3 onto the fork; I swear I saw nr's 4, 5 & 6 try to crawl off the plat. Well that was me done - never another snail to pass my lips and to this day the thought of eating snails makes me gag

And to say that off course the snails were well and truly dead and cooked, but it's amazing just what the imagination can do

(I'm ignoring WM) ;) :P

I've eaten escargot - many moons ago the ex's office was in Carnaby Street, and we all used to go to Champers - upstairs was the wine bar, downstairs restaurant. In the bar you could get 6 or 12 of them, with French bread, so they were always being shared around :)

I love snails (to eat, not as a pet. Though as I have never had one as a pet, I could perhaps love one in that way.).

My favourite place of having them was in Portugal. They were just little, normal garden snails. They had been boiled in their shells and were served in a big mug. They looked like slugs when you pulled them out of the shells.

I might experiment with eating slugs - we keep getting them in our kitchen. :o :o :o :o It is gross. I dont know where they come from and I rarely see them, just their little sluggy trails over the floor. The first thing I do now every morning is mop the floor and wipe down all the surfaces (just in case).

I did notice a gap in the wood of the back door with lots of sluggy trails around it, on the door. I sprinkled salt down it last night and I didn't notice any sluggy trails on the floor this morning.

Yuk, yuk, yuk.

Since I let the chickens rome the vege patch between planting, I've been too scared to use pallets for the slugs and snails. I don't want them to find a non decomposed pallet and eat it by mistake. So I use a garlic solution. I boiled some garlic and bottled the water, then mix some mixture with water and spray liberally. I didn't have a single slug or snail problem in the garden last year, and I know they are around, as the kids regularly go out into the backyard looking for their pet "snaily" which is good when they find one, else their are tears.

That's actually a good idea Weka. As a matter of interest; how garlic'y does the water stink when you apply it to the plants? Do you boil up large batches and store them or make it up as you need it?

Being serious, yes, I know.....   ;)

Ria, I had heard about the garlic thing so looked it up and found this:
https://www.bowdenhostas.com/pages/Garl ... ecipe.html

One thing about lures. My ex MIL's garden was inundated by slugs and snails, but her second hubby was against lures. His logic was that lures tempted the things in when what was needed was a deterrent. He used wood shavings, which did help a bit, but not cure.
