Chaos and a crusty car!!!

Postby Ally » 02 Jan 2013, 14:40

Jeez...what an afternoon!

There I was, pootling in the garden, whiling away the time until I collected my friends from the airport at 4pm.

Wrong!

My mobile goes at 1.15 and it's Denise saying..hi, we've landed! :o :o

I got the time completely wrong!

Dash into the house avoiding any mirrors as I just know there's bits of twig in my hair, grab the car keys, go outside and of course...NO CAR!!!! :o

Jacob hasn't come home yet. :?

Flamin Nora!

I know..I'll borrow my neighbour's car. :)

Dash up to Antonio's house and yes, no problem..and off I go.

This is where the fun started.

It was a Fiat (no offence to Fiat owners) that I swear was made before the war..the Boer war!!

It had 2 speeds..slow and very slow. :?

The gears were shot to bits. :?

Just think Driving Miss Daisy.

Eventually get to the airport and more fun ensues.

Denise's hubby is a big chappie. :)

So there's Denise, hubby, daughter, 2 cases and 3 hand luggage..all to be squished into what is possibly the world's smallest car.

The journey home was very s.l.o.w.

The airport security staff monitoring the CCTV probably had a good old laugh when Ally spluttered to a halt at arrivals :P ;)

It's amazing what you can do in the back of a baby Fiat when you are young and flexible ;)

I had a Fiat 500 the last time around-not one of the trendy retro ones of now. I bought it new but it was a heap of doo-doos! It was a sewing machine held together with bits of string and elastic bands. Everything in it snapped and broke. The choke string, the starter string, front passenger seat broke and passenger had to sit in the front with the seat facing the back. Tyres like a Dinky Toy. Drove to Brighton once with a puncture but there was no way of telling. The battery so weak if I put an interior light on it couldn't cope. Reverse gear packed up.Never did get it fixed. No reversing for me! Other motorists actually used to laugh at me as I struggled to keep up. Or they would ignore me as if I was invisible and pull out in front of me. Hated it and had to give myself a severe talking to when I found myself admiring the new Fiat 500 in the adverts.

Maybe your neighbour's nightmare Fiat is the same vintage
