Just watching the GBBO Christmas special.....

Postby meriad » 17 Dec 2013, 20:28

and the first recipe was Mary making a Mince Streussel, ie a large mince pie in a baking dish vs smaller individual mince pies, and as she was making her own fruit mince she commented that everyone loves home made fruit mince. Erm... no definitely not everyone

All I will say to that is yuck and icky icky icky... gross, horrid, revolting, Well you get the idea that I DO NOT LIKE fruit mince - I do not like lemon peel, orange peel, a raisins, sultanas etc and a mix of all of that???? Oh dear I could think of nothing worse (well celery and parsley maybe) and it would be my worst nightmare to be invited somewhere and be served mince pies, Stollen or any type of Christmas (or wedding) fruit cake..... shudder!!!!

Please someone tell me I'm not the only one that doesn't like this type of food?

Oh, and someone explain why I don't like Marzipan, but like almonds and amaretto ?? :o

I'm not mad keen either Ria :? I'd rather have an apple pie than mince, and plain or chocolate cake than fruit ;)

Sorry Meriad, but I love marzipan. Morrisons sell loaves of bread now with streaks of marzipan in them
and I could eat them all year round.

I'm not too keen on mince pies though, unless they are injected with a measure of Scotch.

But its good we don't all like the same, isn't it?

Yep, it's just you meriad ;) :x

'Course it's not, lots of people don't like it. I do though :)
I didn't see the advantage of cooking the struesel thing in a tray but then needing a plate and fork to eat it with
A roomful of people all needing plates and forks does not win over a few minutes extra making separate mice pies.

Edited to add - and you don't like celery either, or even parsley - bah, fussy eaters! 8-) :x
(I was the fussiest child ever!)

I thought that it was only me.....

I am not a fan of turkey, never did like Christmas pud, and mince pies are little better than bird food. I do not mind a good roast dinner with a light pudding for afters, but the Christmas dinner thing does my head, and stomach, in.

However, I do like a slice of Christmas cake, with butter or cheese, once things have settled down. :)

So many Christmas cooking programmes, and so many weird contrived recipes.
I like a nice slice of plain cold turkey with chutney. I don't want it turned into some strange pie.
I like some plain fruit and ice cream. I do like a few sultanas on my porridge though.

No, I don't like mince pies either. Or fruit cake.

Can cope with celery though

I absolutely love mince pies, Christmas pudding, rich fruit cake etc etc. so this time of year is marvellous for my taste buds, reeeeeeally bad for my waistline

Much as I love watching Mary Berry though, I can't be faffed with all that baking these days. Shop bought mince pies do very nicely ;) :D
