That's quite a rarity when eating out here isn't it and when you add drinks onto a meal bill it really mounts up!

Lol not just you Ton, no way would we pay £20 for lunch unless it was a real treat! :o
This is an expensive area, lots of pubs charge a tenner for a burger
Cafés and sandwich shops should be cheaper, but when we were looking at them all, it's £5.99 for a standard pannini or baguette

If we wander around the town, then one option is a pasty from the little shop by the quay, to take and eat by said quay - which is what I fancied the other day but the shop's not open weekdays in winter.
Thank heavens Wetherspoons got their permission, the food's pretty reliable, and lots of choice. We've been 3 times this year; twice had a chicken burger each, which is literally a whole breast, char-grilled, in a bun. Bb had chips, I had salad, and it's £6.29 each but includes a drink - eg pint of lager or cider, glass of wine, soft drink, etc.
On Friday we both had ham, egg & chips, which was in another deal, £8.79 for the 2 :)

I think the only other meals we've had out this year are Prezzo, with the boys, for free on our Tesco vouchers (you get 4x the value for restaurants), and the beachside café at Milford for sausage baguettes :D

Mostly we just eat at home, and if stuck out, then a sandwich or hot sausage roll from a shop, to eat elsewhere.

Even here, it really depends where you go.

In Tavira, my coffee would cost about 1.50 :( Because it's touristy in most areas.

But go away from where the most tourists go and it's just as cheap as here.

A friend went to Cabanas - a very touristy place - for dinner the other night and ended up paying 16 euros for the dish of the day, which would normally be about 6-7 euros. That's a meal, drink, dessert and coffee.

The Capri, where we go, gets a lot of tourists, but also a lot of the locals go there. The fish is as fresh as a few hours and we've been there when the fishermen have actually brought the fish in, straight from their boat.

Can't beat it - except I'm not the fish lover

Wetherspoons are pretty good aren't they?! And they usually takeover interesting old buildings, in Stafford the Wetherspoons is in an Art Deco cinema and it's lovely, still tiered and with lots of interesting movie posters on the wall.

We also went to a Garfunkels while we were in London, I think we paid around £35 for steak and chips and drinks, which wasn't too bad for Central London - and it was a lovely meal with excellent service - but it's not something we'd make a habit of doing! If we eat out, and it's quite a rarity, we either go to a Chinese buffet restaurant in Wolverhampton, the Indian down on the main road (they do a buffet on Sundays which is lovely or Monday to Thursday main courses are 2 for the price of 1 so very good value if you pick your days) or the pub around the corner.

Yes Jo, we've been impressed :)

This one had a big battle as it's next to a church, but they've done a really good job and I hope have won over a lot of the people who opposed it. The building was a very old shop, latterly run by a very odd couple of blokes . It had kitchen equipment, bedding, and a few bits of furniture :o
They've named it The 6 Bells which was apparently a pub there originally, and have some lovely old black and white photos of the shop as it evolved, inside and out. There's also a really smart courtyard garden, which is where we first ate, the May bank holiday.
Inside it looks more like a big, posh coffee shop, definitely not like a pub. Which is kind of a shame, pubs a re disappearing, but it's a nice place to go to eat :)

It's lovely that they keep the old names going isn't it? There's also one down the road in Cannock and it's in the old, very old, ironmonger's shop. The building dates from the 1500s and had been empty for years. When it was an ironmonger's it was called Linford's and Wetherspoons have named it The Linford Arms.

The cheapest and pretty much the nicest place for a snack here is the new Coffee # One in the city centre - you get a big pot of loose leaf tea (at least two cups full) and a large toasted teacake for £3.45 :D Plus the girls in there are the just lovely, fantastic service :)

My very favourite is Correttos in the Docks where the quality of the food is fantastic, very authentic Italian - as are the staff lol - and a pannini and a hot drink come to just over a fiver.......

The Weatherspoons here is not brilliant, tends to attract drunks and the local weirdos - Gloucester has a lot of strange people, it's quite a deprived city in a lot of ways  I've been in some great ones though in other towns :) :)
