I buy crumpets because I fancy them at the time, then after a couple of days freeze them, maybe eat the odd one or two...don't know why, they were a staple Sunday tea item when I was growing up, and I do like them My dad always insisted they weren't a patch on pikelets though
The Co-op does some fruit ones with sultanas and mixed candied peel in. They have to be toasted very quickly under a super hot grill to get a nice crust with a soft inside. The butter, it has to be butter, needs to be soft so they don't deflate when it is spread.
