I buy crumpets because I fancy them at the time, then after a couple of days freeze them, maybe eat the odd one or two...don't know why, they were a staple Sunday tea item when I was growing up, and I do like them :?
My dad always insisted they weren't a patch on pikelets though ;)

Been thinking about teacakes ever since I first read this

So today I'm making them - dough's in the breadmaker now :D
Never made them before, so fingers crossed - they'll be a few hours yet ;)

The Co-op does some fruit ones with sultanas and mixed candied peel in. They have to be toasted very quickly under a super hot grill to get a nice crust with a soft inside. The butter, it has to be butter, needs to be soft so they don't deflate when it is spread.

Now I am hungry.

Oh dear, the power of suggestion eh Loz? ;) :-P

Di, they sound delicious :D WM it definitely has to be real butter with a teacake, spread would just be wrong! :o ;)

Still haven't had my teacake!!! I was entirely the wrong end of town at lunchtime, so had a pannini instead

On the plus side I've finished my Crimbo shopping! :kick:
