Life is just like that sometimes

Postby Suff » 27 Jun 2013, 19:19

My parents came to visit a little over two weeks ago. They were staying for three days.

At the same time we were having the doorway between the current living room and the new living room next door ripped out of the wall. The living room was totally out of action and in a total mess for the whole time.

My parents decided to stay for a week.

In the interim #1 son and his better half came over to sign for their house 15 minutes down the road from us and start working on it.

Then one of the builders was taken sick and the job ran on for a while.

3 days after my parents left, my mother became ill and they returned and she was hospitalised. She's much better now although Mrs S had to shout at her to go to the hospital Sunday evening instead of Monday morning when it would be busy.

My father is now coming round every day for Lunch and tea, meaning Mrs S can't go to #1 son's house and help out like she had planned.

Today my mother was told that she'll need a course of 14 more injections (daily) so sort out her blood as it was far too thick.

Also yesterday my SIL was taken into hospital in Scotland throwing up blood.

Mrs S is going off her head and phoning me all the time whether I'm in a meeting or not.

Today I had to phone my brother (just back from holiday in the US and Canada) and tell him that, NO, it would not help at all if he came over and started bossing my parents around and insisting that my mother was medevaced to the UK....

I go home tomorrow to try and get my swimming pool in (it rained for almost every day I was home last time and it was a quagmire). I'm going to have to bite my tongue hard this weekend. Needless to say my diet has gone to hell and I'm not very focused at work.

I guess we'll get over it and things will go back to some semblance of normal. However Mrs S was looking forward to 3 weeks "down time" before all the visitors come for the summer. Now she's lucky if she'll get 3 days.

At least she's got more than enough to worry about so she won't go on about my bike any more.... Sliver linings...

Hope your mum recovers quickly and so too your sil.

Gosh Suff, what a time for everyone - esp your wife. Wishing your mom and SIL a very speedy recovery and I really really hope that Mrs S (and you) get some quality me time before any summer guests arrive. Push come to shove - leave the guests on their own for a day or two and take Mrs S somewhere nice

And stay safe on that bike!

Get well soon to your Mom and your sister in law. What a stressful time, I also thought you hadn't been around much lately. Take care of yourself and Mrs Suff too.

Hi Suff, I was going to e-mail you after the meet to find out what was happening as a few people did ask.... thankfully it is all clearing up.

It's a sod, but sometimes you have to take life as it comes.

I do hope that your mum and SIL make speedy recoveries and that you and Mrs S get back on track asap.

As you say Suff, sometimes it just happens like that :?
Really hope they're both very much better soon and Mrs S (and you!) manage a bit of time to yourselves.

Thanks everyone.

I had just kind of lost track of where I was. Work is a bit more intense right now and I'm focusing on some other stuff. I'm probably going to join the society of model and experimental engineers and what I want to do is probably going to take a lot of my spare time.

Then, of course, this all unfolds.

I'm sure we'll get through it.

WM, I would have liked to come to the meet even if I just rode up for the evening. But, honestly, I need to balance my sleep patterns as they're a mess right now.

I'm hoping that everything will calm down and settle over the next week or two. Fortunately it was my mum and not my dad who is ill. If it had been the other way around I think he might be close to being a widower.....

No love lost as they say.

Ria, whilst I probably don't ride like an old man on the bike, I certainly don't go mad on it. That would be hard. It's becoming quite evident that even with my bulk on the bike, if I took the panniers off it would happily race up to 150mph. I'm just happy to work with the traffic every morning. I like to do circa 85 on the dual carriageways (that keeps me in the outside lane most of the time), but I often either have to speed up a bit or move over for the cars doing 100mph and greater.

I'm still getting used to the bike and I've already had to repair one of the plug leads. That makes it much more rideable and stable at slower speeds. It is very interesting looking at the tyre wear. The left side is worn almost to the edge of the tread, the right side only 50%. I need to go round and round a few fast roundabouts to keep the wear in balance.... :P

Most importantly for me is that I no longer have to put up with cars who like to mess bikes around. Or drivers who just don't look. If I really want to open the throttle from 60mph, the only cars on the road who will keep up with me are Ferrari's, Lamborghini's and Maserati's. Oh and the odd M5 or McLaren F1. Needless to say my license is more important than fun to me. Maturity, it had to happen in the end :o :o

Hope things get better soon.

They say it doesn't rain but what it pours.

Kind regards, John.
