I had mine done at a jewellers in Kilburn in 1972.....took me longer to write the cheque than the actual procedure did! Had to keep in the sleepers for 6 weeks, wash with salty water and turn them regularly. The very worst part was the first time I took out the sleepers and put in other earrings, I was terrified :o  I think one of the holes is very slightly crooked as an earring in that ear doesn't face completely forward but I suppose only I would notice it.

Poor L!
You know you said the girl put some numbing gel on? Did she pierce it immediately afterwards? It's just that Tom and Joe have numbing cream when they have blood tests and it has to be applied around 30-45 minutes before the procedure. I know the tattoo shop I've used sell it and they recommend that it's applied a certain time beforehand too.

I had my ears pierced when I was 7 and it was just a quick sharp pain and then it was done, the same when I had piercings further up my ear when I was in my teens but I had my nose pierced about 10 years ago and that was like being kicked in the face. It was so so SO painful and hurt for ages afterwards. It failed to heal properly too and getting a stud in was absolute agony - I tried not to mess with it or change the nose stud but sometimes it'd get knocked and fall out. I persevered for about 8 months, I had to put a piece of micropore over it overnight to stop it coming out in bed, and one day it fell out while I was shopping and by the time I got home an hour later and tried to put another stud in it had started to close and the stud wouldn't go in so that was the end of that.

Poor L. :?

I had my ears pierced aged 3 so don't remember.

I've since, over the years, had 3 separate piercings in my right ear with no problems. :D

I got my belly button pierced on my 40th birthday.

I don't have any tattoos. :D :D :D

Poor thing, I hope she manages the other one next week, she was obviously really looking forward to it.

I'd never wanted them till I was about 25 I think, but had the same problems as Kaz. It was a chemist and he was lovely, realised it was the gold that made them react (at the same time my fingers itched and swelled where I wore my wedding and engagement rings).
So I went each day and he looked after them, then re-pierced with (?can't remember, whatever's non-allergenic), and they were kind of ok, but I never knew what earrings could be worn, most would make them swell and be really painful. In the end I gave up, there are still sort of lumps in each ex-hole.

John had his ear pierced some years ago and did okay while getting it done, according to him. This was before he'd left home, and a few days later we were at his house and I said I'd clean it and turn it for him so into the bathroom we went, he sat on the edge of the bath while I applied the solution and that was okay...but when I started to turn the stud he went very, very pale and a split second later he was passed out on the floor.
Me being me, I thought it was hilarious and ran downstairs laughing to tell his Mom...who wasn't amused. But then she wasn't amused about the earring in the first place either :P
