I guess my life was pretty normal. Apart form the fact that my mum made soup with every leftover that could be used for soup, the only thing I really remember being different was the aspirin chewing gum the RAF sick quarters used to hand out to children. Never seen it since I became an adult and it was one of those different things.
Although, now it comes to mind, during the bread strike, my dad brewed ginger beer to grow yeast and my mum made the bread from it. Interesting taste....
