Doesn't make sense to me either Vic, but do you have whatsapp on your phone?
It's a free app and means you can text/send pics for nothing :)

Hi Victor,

Texting a picture is a bit of an oxymoron in some ways but you can send a picture as text. What it actually did was to send a MMS.

Is the phone UK or local? I'd say that MMS services were not available locally. The only way of sending pictures on a phone are MMS or via the internet using email or an app like Skype or fb or other such apps. If you just sent it as text then it was certainly mms, which is not cheap.

Better to be on wifi and send a mail with the picture as an attachment. Both my phones offer to "share" the picture via a range of methods, one of which is email. Of course I have so many mail accounts on my phone I have to pick the correct one, but that's my life.

Sorry MMS is Multimedia Message Service.... Not everyone knows.

Your mms settings are wrong according to this discussion.

I don't use MMS and there have been quite a few issues recently where people have been using smilies in texts which trigger mms instead of being standard texts and then get they huge bills, like over £1k. MMS is normally not in any package.

Sending via email over wifi is free.

Vis, just to say, my daughter got caught out with a similar thing on her old Samsung.

With those particular beasts you have to visit Settings and in Text Messages make sure you are using UniCode. You might also find that many apps require you to be on some sort of data plan in order to work. Read the small print on your PAYG plan - some might work, some not.

not necessarily Di - my contract with EE charges me extra for pictures I send via SMS... I have to use WhatsApp or Viber for that instead for it to be free
