Actually I can understand as we both put away a little every week towards holidays and weekends away. But with this lump sum, you can put away a sum equal to the earnings and it would be one less thing to worry about. When we had the post office, we had to have the money for our holiday relief before anything else, and it was a large part of the overall holiday cost, I can tell you.

Yes I understand it too, I've always looked for the cheapest/best value, and we too put actual cash away all the time.

Bb really has to work Friday, Saturday & Monday - that's our bread-and-butter weekly money. If we go away for a weekend that's a week's money lost; a week away actually means 2 weeks' money lost, as the Monday's work is re 10 days before...then there's the dog. She costs £22 per night away, which is £176 for a week (8 nights) and we can't leave her with anyone else, it wouldn't be fair on them or us.

Coincidentally I just had an email from holidaycottages highlighting cottages in Cornwall; one cottage on there only sleeps 2; for the week from 9/5 it's £290 per week, for 23/5 it's £510. The one that sleeps 6 says it's £1,195 for that week

Thats a lot of money Di, I am sure you can get cheaper than that. Try Owners Direct, I find agencies far more expensive than Owners Direct

I'm dead stingy.

We looked at one cottage in North Devon that seemed perfect. Two beds with parking, school holiday time. £610 for a week.

Expensive but it is school holidays so what do you expect.

Then they mention that they charge £15 per person for bedding and towels.

That's just plain greedy. No matter how lovely the cottage is, if you're charging me over £600 for a week I ain't paying another £60 for bedding and towels you robbing toe tags!

Mm I'm not even looking, just got one of their regular emails ;)

Debih I agree, the most in Spain or Portugal was £10 a week but most didn't charge.
The last thing you want to do when you've driven all that way is make up the bloody beds!

I always take my own bedding regardless of wether it's provided but towels are a pain as they are so bulky so I like them to be provided and yes for free
