Actually I can understand as we both put away a little every week towards holidays and weekends away. But with this lump sum, you can put away a sum equal to the earnings and it would be one less thing to worry about. When we had the post office, we had to have the money for our holiday relief before anything else, and it was a large part of the overall holiday cost, I can tell you.
Yes I understand it too, I've always looked for the cheapest/best value, and we too put actual cash away all the time.
Bb really has to work Friday, Saturday & Monday - that's our bread-and-butter weekly money. If we go away for a weekend that's a week's money lost; a week away actually means 2 weeks' money lost, as the Monday's work is re 10 days before...then there's the dog. She costs £22 per night away, which is £176 for a week (8 nights) and we can't leave her with anyone else, it wouldn't be fair on them or us.
Coincidentally I just had an email from holidaycottages highlighting cottages in Cornwall; one cottage on there only sleeps 2; for the week from 9/5 it's £290 per week, for 23/5 it's £510. The one that sleeps 6 says it's £1,195 for that week
