Just had this inbox message from Weka, on Facebook, asking me to put this reply on for her, as she's having connection problems xxxx

Thank you for your concern. At least it's the weekend and easier to prepare.
We had an absolute cracker of a day today, hard to believe what's coming.
Forecast is already looking more cheary, it's picking up speed. We are now expecting rain from 2pm. We still need to finish here, then we are off to our rental in the morning where I will jump up on the roof and make sure the gutters are clear, and the roof is still soundly nailed, then off to the supermarket, followers by picking up kids from grandparents and helping them battered their hatches, and home before the worst arrives Or at least that's than.

In reality, I know it's only going to be wind and rain. Yes it will be a storm. But that's probably all. I'll post some pics if it gets interesting. and we have solar, so if our area looses power, we should still be good."

Yay I can reply again! Thanks Kaz for posting for me, who knows what was going on last night. Gremlins I think.

Sky's clouded over this morning, and the winds picking up. Time to get moving, I've got lots to do before it hits.

Reports out of Vanuatu are horrific, entire villages gone, cyclone proof houses loosing roofs... Debris everywhere.... I feel so sorry for them, I can recognise places in the pictures, but the devastation makes it hard. Solomon Islands have been hit too, but no real reports from there yet, my brother was asked to work there for a year starting in a fortnight, he said no, but I'm wondering if he's going to get flown up for a bit to help get things up and running again?

We won't have that devastation here, these cyclones loose a lot of their strength by the time the get here thanks to the cooler water. And the eye is not going to pass over us. Thankfully.

It's erie at the moment. A little wind a little rain. I think we must be sheltered here as some wind reports nearby are nothing like what we have. It's due to reach us in 2ish hours. I'll try and get some sleep. Knowing my luck I'll sleep right through it. And I do like a good storm. It was downgraded to a cat 4 about 10 hours ago and should be a cat 3 soon. Still normally they are a 2 or 1 by now.

Oliver saw it on the news and has been asking when the monster is getting here. He's asleep now and a bomb wouldn't wake that boy.

And now we wait........

I hope it keeps losing its strength Weka. Sounds frightening. Best of luck and take care.

We've come through the night fine. We still have a severe weather warning till this afternoon. We seem to be sheltered here as there is barely any wind but they still have harbour ferry crossings cancelled and talking of wind gusts to 130km/h! It sounds like the winds and heavy rain didn't really reach Auckland and has skirted around it thanks to the angle of the island and path of the Storm. Overnight it's gone from a cat 3 to an ex tropical Storm, so the cooler water around here has really taken the sting out.

The ground looks nice and wet though, so I might try and dig my vege garden tomorrow as its been hard like concrete the last month or too. Time to sow the autumn crop. :D
