Things are looking brighter...

Postby Osc » 20 Nov 2014, 21:50

Got a phone call from the builder just before 5pm (well the older man who is doing all the officey/ordering/bills/phone calls etc. - it is his business and he is in the process of handing over to a young Polish man who has worked for him for years) asking us to meet him at the site. We thought he was going to say we needed a new roof or something, but when we arrived at 5.30 the place was a hive of industry. 5 guys working plus R himself pushing it along, they will be working 7 days a week he says and evenings too. He started off with a discussion about where to put the letter box and then went through a long email I had sent yesterday dealing with every point.

We gave him several opportunities to say it would not be ready on the due date but he says it will be, and we explained about how this had become even more important since Miss Osc and family are moving to the house they like, the new landlord agreed to a reduction in rent for a year and they will probably move two weeks from tomorrow. So it looks as if we may only need to find accommodation for one week :D Mr Osc and I really liked R from the start, and it would be lovely to think that our gut instinct did not let us down. So we are not out of the woods yet, but with my fingers crossed, things do look a lot better than 24 hours ago :) Busy couple of weeks ahead now

That does sound a lot more positive Osc :D
Your feet aren't going to touch the ground these next few weeks! :o

Is Miss Osc still going to be living nearby?

Oh I'm so glad Osc, you did sound so confident in the builder guy, hopefully he'll still come up trumps :)
I was going to ask that too, whereabouts are Miss Osc and co moving to?

Yes Jo and Di, a few minutes by car but a good half hour or maybe 40 minutes walk away. They will have fabulous views from the house right over Dublin Bay.

How lovely! Must be a relief for you all that they'll be out of the house they're in at the moment. It must be a constant worry that any heavy rain could cause it to flood :?

Oh that's positive news!!! Really pleased for you Osc 8-)

Miss O's new house sounds great, and close enough :) We are about 20/25 minutes walk from my MIL and it's just about right really ;)

Phew Osc, that does sound a lot more promising than 24 hours ago! Daft question - but do you all have to move in 2 weeks or could you and Mr Osc stay on for that extra week to save you having to pack up and move twice?
