Killer Heels

Postby Aggers » 12 Nov 2014, 12:26

I have been surprised to see many of the female dancers on Strictly Come Dancing wearing shoes
having pencil-thin heels that must be about six inches long. How on earth do they manage it?

I know that such shoes are fashionable at the moment, but surely the wearing of such shoes cannot
be good for one's feet and legs, and, what is more significant, could they not prove to be lethal if
they accidentally (or deliberately) trod on someone?

And in any case, why have the police not taken action for women wearing them being in possession
of an offensive weapon ?

What are your views?

With great difficulty Aggers. :D It's a secret that we women have kept from men for years. We learn how to walk in killer heels when we are in our teens and finally give them up when we get to around 60, or at least I did. When I was younger I wore heels like that to work and into town shopping, now I couldn't walk across a room in them. I never accidentally inflicted injury on anybody with my heels. ;)

I honestly don't know how they walk in them. I know I can't. I wore a pair last year for John's office night out and was in agony after walking from the house to the car.

You're right Aggers, they could be used in a fight and do a lot of damage to a person. I remember years ago that someone stood on my foot and their stiletto heel dug into my foot and left me with a cut and a very nasty bruise.

They can indeed be a weapon, and a jolly good thing too ;)
I used to wear quite high heels to work every day, on the train to London, long walks to the tube, changing trains, then a long walk down Baker Street...
The one time I was properly groped on the tube I took a quick look to make sure I had the right person, then stepped back onto his foot with one of said heels and put my whole weight on it.

The dancers do seem to have fairly high heels, I guess they're just used to it.
I do love seeing what shoes Claudia/Darcey/Zoe are wearing each week :D
Don't often get to see It Takes Two but used to and was always on Shoe Watch

I have some amazing killer heels (not been worn for some time though).

I call them my "sitting down shoes" as I can't do much else in them!

Paddy, I admire that you managed to wear them to around 60; I gave up when I hit my 40's     And even before then I never really wore those very very high heels

Aggers, not sure how they do it because I sure as hell can't. Nothing elegant about me tottering about in high heels, believe me. I'm with Debih on the "sitting down shoes" bit and same as Jo it doesn't take long before the feet start hurting

My Argentine Tango shoes are 8cm...what's that in old money? :D
They are dance shoes so are made to support you and make the dance much more elegant. They are easy to wear to dance in, but I never wear high heels at other times.

I can't wear higher than a 3" heel these days, and TBH I prefer a wedge for a bit of height - kinder on the back ;) Mostly I am in flats, or a small square heeled pair of boots

On our wedding day I raced across town in 4" heeled strappy pink and silver sandals, with Mick running beside me with H under one arm (we were late, long story)   I must have been very keen to get married as I didn't even stumble  :P
