Snow watch

The panic for the snow is incredible.

I have been listening to the radio all morning and someone was on from our local Co-op supermarket. He said that yesterday, with snow forecast, they were busier than they had been just before Christmas and had completely sold out of fresh fruit and veg, milk and bread.

The number of schools closing is crazy. It has been snowing all morning but not particularly heavy but it has been pretty windy. It has eased off slightly now and I know that more is forecast to start coming later this afternoon and tonight. The A6 is clear and my mum has been out and about and says that all the bigger side roads are clear - the only schools that seem to be open now are ones like ours - small village schools. All those in the two towns (where the roads are clear) are shut and they have just announced the closure of another school - which is situated right on the main road!

How on earth would people cope if they lived where they really had snow. I can understand it if it was so heavy the main roads were become unpassable, but they aren't! Sheer madness.

The forecast wasn't wrong this time was it?!
I walked back from the gym at 10 and the main A34 is dreadful, it's white over apart from wheel tracks on either side. It was clear when I walked down at 8.
I had a text from the school saying that they were going to close at 11 and really I think they took the correct decision, the roads are bad and some teachers have to travel quite a distance. I'm not sure what time the boys will be back as they have to get the bus which comes along the aforementioned A34 and it's just been mentioned on the radio because it's now partially blocked between the bus station and here due to a broken down car. I saw our neighbour go out to collect her two and her friend's daughter and she's not back yet, 45 minutes after school closed.

I think B's college took the right decision to close - it's out in the country and if the buses stop many of the kids would be trapped up there. That's what happened during the floods, the bus service stopped without warning at lunchtime and the students had to get home as best they could

I think we must have a good 3 or 4 inches now, and it is still coming down! There have been snowball fights and snowmen made on the field opposite, but it's far too cold for me out there

Glad you are all stocked up Saundra I spoke to my MIL and she is stocked up too, otherwise Mick and I would have taken her some stuff up later - on foot if necessary as it is walking distance

Kaz, you need to get out over the field with Pepper - you'll be lovely and warm if you run around with her Billy and I went over the common and had a great time

Joe got home at 12, he walked. Tom just walked through the door and now he's off for a hot shower. Joe's all togged up, his sledge is out of the garage and he's off over the common shortly when his friends are ready.
John's called and he's just leaving work - it must be bad if his boss has sent them all home early!

I must admit, I detest snow and never want to go out in it but Billy was having so much fun running around our tiny garden that it seemed a shame for him not to have the run of the common. I'm a soft touch

It's just started again.... and if the clouds are anything to go by there's lots of it! No wind, either, so it won't blow over any time soon.

Our old Alsatian, Max, used to love the stuff, especially when it was deep enough for him to do his snowplough impression.

It's stopped here briefly, but the sky is still full! I went out to the dustbin and there was 4" of snow I reckon on the lid
