Moving out.

Postby Workingman » 01 Nov 2014, 17:14

No, not me, the poor couple below.

There was a bit of a commotion yesterday evening. but it all calmed down so I didn't get involved.

Today, this evening, a Transit van turns up and A throws a few things in the back then my door bell goes. She tells me they are moving out for a few weeks because the kitchen floor has collapsed!

The poor things have had a pretty hard time of their lease. Before they moved in the guy next to me, upstairs flat, had a leak in his bathroom. It brought down the ceiling in the bathroom in the flat below his. The floors in it and the kitchen had to be replaced because of all the damage. What was unknown at the time was that the water had tracked across the joists and into the flat below me.

When S&A moved in they were always complaining of damp.... now we know why. Sometime last year A and one of the toddlers were in the bath when it fell through the floor - capsized! It only dropped a few inches, but the survey showed that the joists had rotted. Now the kitchen floor has gone the same way! At least they will get a new kitchen out of it and the little ones will love being in an hotel for a while. :D

Thanks girls, I'm fine. Fortunately water doesn't run uphill, but I won't be getting any of their heating for a while.

I am not sure if it is the insurance ortheir landlors, but the have been put up in the 4* Village hotel just down the road. I think that might be because the children are in a local school and nursery and A does not drive.

Shell, when the bathroom floor collapsed their landlords put them in one of their empty lets for the few days it took to repair. S said that it could be two weeks for the kitchen as it will be a full refurb.

They sounded happy to be going to the hotel as it has a fitness centre, pool, restaurant and bar(s). No housework or cooking for mum and free electric, heating and Sky TV.

Hope the insurance company and landlord sort it out quickly.

Crickey!! I'm pleased no one got hurt! What a shock that must have been. It's good that they have found somewhere so close so quickly.

They can teach the little'uns to swim while they have a free pool
