A PROBLEM.

I've been using my laptop all afternoon but it won't close down now.

Any suggestions?

Place the laptop on a hard level surface--not your knee.
Place your left hand on the key board and ho;ld the laptop still.
Then with your right hand slowly lower the screen until it is level with the key board.
Lap top is now closed down.

I don't have a lap top so am just trying to be helpful

I am guessing that you have had updates and maybe they have not quite taken.

If you press down on the Power button - ten seconds or more - it will eventually shut down. On reboot it might tell you that it is installing updates and not to turn it off, or it could boot normally and start uploading updates again. It shouldn't be a long term problem.
