In reality that means you could be Virgin, old NTL or old Telewest. I've spent a lot of time working in post merger companies. Sometimes they take decades to get over the old rivalry. Sadly service levels tend to be similar to those when the merger or acquisition happened. If they were bad before, they'll be bad for quite a while longer....

And that is why I nearly took Branson to court. I had been with NTL, but switched to Virgin for faster speed for not a lot more money - as advertised on TV and everywhere. When I didn't get the speed it all went nuclear till one day a Virgin eng let slip about them using the old NTL backbone and that it could not deliver the speed I was paying for.
