Now Cameron and Osborne are talking Devo Max???? After a poll shows that everything they have said to date has only pushed a stronger Yes vote.

Scots have long experience with this. Promises before the vote, denial after. The pundits may be blathering on about people who would choose Devo Max before Independence, but that is not the choice on the table.

If anything, I think this incredibly cynical last minute attempt to stave off utter defeat is pitiful and will be seen by Scots as such. How do you trust the word of a government you quite literally had to put a gun to the head of before they saw sense? Take the gun away? Business as usual.

I expect to see the poll spark a touch higher for independence after this one. Westminster has just proved that they are scared to death of a Yes vote and will do anything in their power to limit it's consequences. Shared currency comes to mind.....

I came across the headline "Scottish independence: Timetable on new Scots powers to be outlined 'in days'" when I was looking for something else for the other thread.

As I read the article the thought came to mind: 'No Dave, No George, you are not buying a "No" vote with my money. You have had two years to positively argue for a "No" vote and you blew it. You now have to put up and shut up..... and this latest stunt might just have lost you the next general election.'

Hence the point about the Welsh first minister demanding whatever they give to the Scots in equal measure. Making the cost even more.

That's the whole point though. The No campaign has had a long time to make a compelling, inspiring case for staying in the Union; and they haven't made that case.

It's all been negatives. It all mirrors the EU in/out debate. There is a case for staying in the EU, and the Union - so what is it?

Ask the questions, and all you get back is negatives. You can't leave the union because. You can't leave the EU because the bogeyman will get you. There is no inspiring message for staying in either the Union or the EU.

But who wants to sell nebulous possible benefits when faced with hard facts of imposed rules and regulations, high cost of maintenance and loss of sovereignty?

As has been seen with the constitution. If you ask the people, the answer is almost always NO. Only the elite will make these decisions "in our best interests" of course.

When you take the case to the people, as is being seen in Scotland, the answer is not always what the elite would want...

The Scots should either vote Yes or No. Bribes from the British government should not be offered. To be honest I would prefer the Scots to go rather than be bribed to stay.

They haven't forgotten 92 and Major's list of promises which became a list of "maybe's" immediately the election was won. One of those promises was to motorway the A1 to Edinburgh.... Nuff said!

They are all full of false promises Suff. I seem to remember David Cameron promising to introduce a law on shared parenting. Since he slid into Office he has done zilch to support it. It's not just the canny Scots who can see through these slippery eels!

It's a bit ironic that the breakup of The Union will be under a Prime Minister going under the name of Cameron whose Clan motto is "Aonaibh Ri Chéile" (Let Us Unite).
