Try this one Vic. https://www.lexmark.com/en_us/support/u ... river.html

Lexmark say it will work with any Winwdos OS.

Vic, on the download page there is also a Universal Print Driver PDF. It has all applicble devices listed, the 510 is one, and installation instructions. With W7 you might have to right click on the Lexmark_Universal_v2_UD1_Installation_Package.exe and 'Run as Administrator' to get it to work.

It'll be cheaper than a new printer. :D

Try going the other way.

Power up the printer then attach it via USB.

If W7 finds it let it try to install drivers etc. If it cannot find one or says that the driver is up to date choose Search my computer and navigate to the installation file you downloaded.

If W7 does not install the printer go to Control Panel and then Drivers and Printers. Choose Add a Printer then stop the wizard from searching and pick The printer I want isn't listed and click Next. In the new window tick Add a local printer and click Next. Accept Use an existing port and from the drop-down pick LPT1: (Printer Port) click Next. Now Click Have Disk and browse to the location of the installation file you downloaded. Follow the instructions from there.

Vic, I am on W8.1 and just tried something else.

In the last window from my second suggestion, the one with all the printers in, don't pick Have Disk but scroll down the printers to Lexmark. In the right hand pane scroll all the way down to S510 series driver and try that.

Well yes, Vic, I suppose the 510 is getting a bit "leggy" in its old age. I think I gave mine to the charity shop because nobody wanted to buy it.

It does bug me though, that something physically working properly is overtaken by newer OSes and rendered obsolete. There was a time when I would have searched high and low for ways of getting it to work, but sometimes accepting defeat is better for one's head and soul.
