The latest news is that his wife has announced that he was in the early stages of Parkinson's disease

Oh how sad, but it does shed some light. On top of all of his other problems, it must just have been too much.

That is sad, but also highlights that in the grips of severe depression, it's almost impossible to cope with anything else.
Same with reports of him maybe having financial problems, it wouldn't be that that caused his suicide, but that it was one thing too many to try and cope with
