I am also in awe of Di's memory as I had forgotten that! Good thinking though.
I think she is bored and desperate for company. Her husband is lovely but big into his photography and dogs (they have two dogs with them). He will happily go off for the day with the dogs and his camera. Liz is very unfit and overweight (says unfit fat me) so that's a no no for her. He's also bought his bike this time so is likely to leave the dogs with her and go off cycling for the day.
I have no objection with Mick going off for the day (as long as he took the dog) as the girls and I just go to the beach. They surf and I read. But she has to "entertain" her boys - if they aren't doing something related to a computer they seem to be at a complete loss.
But Liz has two boys who, the only way I can describe them is "lolloping lumps who are real mummy's boys". Tom is in the same year as S and Adam is the year below L. When they tracked us down to the beach last year I was amazed to find that they (the lollops) had never been any deeper than their ankles in the sea before - EVER!!!!! They ended up hiring body boards and going out with my two but they kept coming back to mum every ten minutes or so for god knows what (I'm a cruel mum - mine know only to come disturb me if a) they are hungry b) they are thirsty or c) their sibling has drowned). They are very needy children and I, Mother Earth, don't "do" needy children. Liz did say that if S and L aren't at the beach the boys won't go in the sea at all! I don't have that problem - my two will go make friends with anyone - mainly to avoid having to keep each other occupied!
So I do understand that she wants company but I'm really not going to provide it for her on a daily basis.
I have weakened today and sent her a text telling her we are going to the donkey derby tonight.
It is hard as she really is a likeable woman - she's just too needy for me.
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone!
