best british beaches

mablethorpe (east coast )
bournmouth going through the flower gardens and weymouth
and of couse cornwall
all you need is the weather like now
and i cant forget bridlington with out the hordes of visitors and cars

When I was a little girl we went to the IOW a lot, and Compton Bay there is fabulous - broad and empty with lovely white sand

Camber Sands!! The best for kite flying

Teignmouth was absolutely glorious last year, a real classic Victorian seaside place

Alum Bay on the IOW, in the days when you could still climb the cliffs and collect the multi-coloured sand in little glass containers

Mum loved Alum Bay, one of my best memories of me and her is walking from our holiday park to Alum Bay one morning very very early, along the beach. She woke me up, quietly so as not to disturb dad and Julie, and we sneaked out to walk, for miles and miles.................

Oh my eyes are leaking now!!! Happy memories.............

Woolacombe has an amazing beach. Not sure where else as I actually don't like sand, never have

Oh I know Gorran Haven in Cornwall has a lovely beach, its not big but last year I remember looking at it and there were children in the sea and in the rock pools and dogs in the sea and in the rock pools. Thats how it should be family holidays for kids and pets

We used to fo to North Wales, Rhyl and a couple of other places - too long ago to remember and also up near Rodo

And I can't for the life of me remember the name of the beach/place, but it was very long and I used to sit on my dads knee and steet the car - on the beach I was about 5 or 6 - that's why I can't remember the name Southport ?

I love Crooklets beach in Bude, it's just out of the town centre and is usually pretty empty as most people seem to follow the signs to Summerleaze which can get overcrowded. Unfortunately dogs aren't allowed on Crooklets during the main season so we thought we were going to have to use Summerleaze last year so headed there on arrival and it was so busy. I walked up to town though for something for lunch and spotted some steps down the cliff onto Middle beach which we'd never used before (it's in the middle of the two beaches) and the sign said that dogs were allowed so we used that each day afterwards and it was gorgeous, very quiet and the sand was beautiful, but close enough to the safe areas where the lifeguards are for the boys to use their boards.

Our first holiday after Joe was born - he was about 2 months old - was to the Isle Of Wight and we went to Alum Bay. I'd been when I was a child and had loved collecting the sand from the cliffs with my cousins but this time you had to fill the bottles with sand from little boxes in the shop. It had become much more commercialised over the years.

Ton, I remember my older cousin taking some of us younger ones up to the Southport area and parking on a beach there. We went to Southport on quite a few family days out when we were little and the sea was always, always miles out - we never got to paddle in it

There are so very many beautiful beaches in the UK. It's difficult to say which one is the best.

One that sticks in my memory is the golden sands of Cromer Beach, because I visited it with
my father on the first day it was opened to the public after World War Two. (Most of the our
beaches were out of bounds during the war years). I was working with my father helping to
install machinery at a firm in Norwich at the time and we took the day off.

Why anyone wants to go abroad for a seaside holiday I don't know.

Aggers I agree, with a proviso that the weather needs to be decent - in good weather the British seaside is very hard to beat

Absolutely. It's a miserable place to be when the weather's not good. Must say we've done our fair share of playing on beaches on wet and cold Summer days though!

Us too, and in most places you can make a decent holiday of it whatever the weather - but I much prefer it in sunshine
