are you allowed to take baked beans on a flight?

Just being curious...

my colleague is flying to France tomorrow to visit relatives; one of which quite likes baked beans (which I gather you don't get there, or can't find easily?). So she's bought one of these snap packs of 4 Heinz Baked Beans (you know the 4 plastic tubs with a cardboard sleeve). Each tub is 200gr

Do you think she'd be allowed to take them with her in her hand luggage, or would they - because of the sauce they are in - be considered liquid?

We could contact the airline of course, but it's Easyjet and by the time you've called their premium rate number and been on hold for who knows how long, it'd be as cheap to just hand over the beans at the airport if need be

I wouldn't have though thave thought they'd be allowed in hand luggage.

We can get baked beans here, just have to pay an extra premium for Heinz, like 2 euros a tin

I've found a few airport websites (Gatwick and Glasgow) which state that foods in sauces can only be taken through security on containers of 100ml or less and have to be put into the clear plastic bag for liquids. I'm not sure how old this info is though.

Your best bet might be to ring the airport which your colleague is flying from as she'd have to get the beans through security if she put them in hand luggage making it an airport security issue rather than anything to do with the airline.

"they make a fuss about explosives in liquids being taken on board, just wait how explosive i can get if I have these in me "

She could open the tins, drain off all the sauce and dry the beans.

Four tubs of baked beans is hardly a deal breaker.

I would put them in hand luggage and if airport security is so uptight about them I'd leave them. It is not as though they cannot be obtained in France. I have bought them there in Carrefour and Champion.
