I thought I was watching the gay pride parade.
The kids loved it though, they got bored with all the teams walking in, but I loved how they did it in geographical regions, made it heaps easier for me to show sasha on the map where those people came from.

thanks to the opening ceremony, my kids now know about racism and apartheid, that guys kiss each other, that guys wear skirts, that some teams wore goo on their heads, that Malaysia is a sad country, about war, poverty, and preventable diseases.
And I thought we were just going to be watching light hearted entertainment. I'm not knocking it, non of these themes normally come up in conversation in our house.
oh, and bless, when Rod Stewart came on, I mentioned how he use to be married to a NZ model called rachael hunter, and sasha says, what's a model? The one question of the night I didn't want to answer. I love that she's made it to 5 without any concept of the fashion/diet/commercialism industry.
