A proper dinner!

Postby Diflower » 13 Jul 2014, 18:10

We haven't had many decent meals this week - last night was (very nice, bargain Pizza express) pizza, Friday we'd been out for lunch so I had a fish finger sarnie, he had a fried egg one :D

I'd cleared room in the freezer so we could get 3 of the W/rose chickens for a tenner. I've got some of their profits on that, they're all meant to be 1.2kg - this one's 1.8  :D No wonder people undercook them!

So it's nearly done. There was the end of a pack of butter so I mashed it with lots of fresh thyme, garlic, lemon zest and stuffed it under and over the skin :)
The halved new pots would have gone in the same tray but the chicken filled it so they're in a separate one but with juice from the chook plus more lemon juice.
Then W/rose had a pack of tenderstem brocolli with fine beans reduced to 85p so am about to steam them, then mix into the potatoes and juices :) There's a courgette, I might add that...
Can you smell it from there? :D

Those chickens are well worth it Jo, they're all labelled 1.2kg, and £4.39 each, so 3 for £10 is brilliant.
When we have freezer space I've realised it's the best way to buy chickens, and just go through the shelf picking each one up - it's easy to pick the heaviest and seems silly not too ;) :D

It's annoying that they usually have these hard plastic outers, so to get them in the freezer I have to take them out, wrap in clingfilm and then in a bag. If the date's long enough we're quite happy to keep a second in the fridge and cook two in a week :)

You wouldn't get 3 at that size in Aldi for £10! I wish we had a Waitrose near to us, the nearest is in Lichfield and even then it's quite a way out of town :?

Exactly!
I wouldn't want to have to do a whole weekly shop there but if you pick and choose you can get some lovely stuff :)
