Last night

Thought I better pop in and show my face today - it's been a very trying and tiring couple of days, not to mention painful!! :(

After work Tom and I usually walk our two greyhounds, Tip the big boy and Tegan our little girl, I usually walk her as she is smaller and a bit easier to control. It was a lovely evening and we got so far round our regular walk when we approached two young lads, late teens/early twenties, with a dog each of their own, they were crouched down on the side of the path a fair few yeards from us, physically restraining their dogs - as we passed, the dogs, barking madly by this time, lunged forward and broke free of the lads, they attacked our two dogs, and us, Tegan was bitten on her chest, luckily Tip was ok but Tom was on the ground trying to control the bigger of their two dogs, both the lads were totally incapable of restraining them and we were all caught up in the melee. I felt a little nip on my backside, which by late evening had turned into two huge bruises. Anyway it was Tom that eventually managed to get both their dogs under some form of control, and the bigger dog was kept down by the older lad lying on top of it. The lead had snapped so showing the force with which they had lunged forward. I'm not much good on dog breeds so no idea what they were, but they were the kind that are bred for violence, and we got it! Tip had escaped his lead as well but his was more to do woth the fact his collar is a tiny bit big and he slipped it, our main concern then was making sure he didn't rund out into the road, it's a fast road and he'd have stood no chance if he'd gone into the traffic.....

When we got home Tom got on the phone to the police right away. It's been reported and we intend attending this month's PACT meeting on Thursday evening at the local leisure centre. He's already taken Tegan to the vets and she has been given ABs, she is very quiet and subdued and is not happy to be walked atm, bless her :( I couldn't get an appt this morning at the docs but I am off tomorrow and have one already booked for then, in case I need a tetanus shot and possibly some ABs myself, although since lunchtime the soreness and heat from the bruising have gone down loads.

Anyway as you can imagine I haven't felt up to coming online till tonight but I just wanted to explain in more detail to those of you who may have seen (and commented) on my FB status - thank you xxx

I meant to add, I hope they find those dogs and that they are destroyed, they are a complete menace and could kill a small child I would imagine  :( :( :(

Gal I did see on fb as you know but that sounds absolutely terrifying for all of you, poor dogs included :(
These stupid people really have got to be made to comprehend the physical strength of some dogs - and it can easily be turned on them
Glad at least that you're not hurting so much but really hope you can get some sort of result from the police etc (((x)))

Thanks Kaz - I didn't want to post too many details on FB tbh, but I just thought it was only fair that people who had commented knew the full story.

It was seeing Tom incandescent with rage to save his adored pets, wrestling with these horrble fierce dogs on the path that really got to me :( The two lads were speechless, they were so shocked. And then afterwards when his adrenalin had faded, he was so upset :( Kept saying what would have happened if it had been just me walking our dogs, as I regularly do, or if Lewis had been with us....

And then as we walked away from the horrible scene, a really kind man approached and asked if we were ok as he had witnessed the whole thing, he'd been driving along and spotted Tom on the ground so doubled back to help, but by the time he got to us we had left the scene. We chatted for a few minutes but of course we took no details as at the time were undecided about what course of action to take :(

I have been to work today and managed ok, but am still shaken my the whole thing, as is Tom :(

I also saw that on FB Gal, how shocking and frightening for you both and your dogs. You are doing the right thing going to the doc even if the soreness has gone down a bit. It will take you a while to get over it, and as for Tip and Tegan, I'm sure they will be nervous for quite some time. Take care of yourselves xx

Oh my God Gal :o So very glad that none of you were badly hurt and hope that Tegan will soon be feeling happier.

I must admit that I get very nervy if I'm walking Billy and come across one of these so-called status dogs.

Oh Gal, that's horrific. I also saw it on FB and have been looking out for you on here to find out what happened.

Sadly the memories will stay with you for a long time (I still get flashbacks to Millie's accident).

Thank god that Tom was there and that you are all ok. It doesn't bare thinking about what could have happened if you were on your own, or had a child with you.

What did the police say?
