The impossible conversation.

Postby Workingman » 07 Jul 2014, 14:37

I have a little brick laid patio area with a few chairs and a table and it is where the wheelie bins stand. There I am minding my own business whilst busy trimming this and that and plucking out some weeds when a little voice announces:

Mummy does not let me pick flowers.

Oh gosh Will! You scared me.

She says it is naughty.

And quite right she is Will.

But you are picking flowers. Why can you pick flowers?

Oh, these are not flowers, they are weeds.

But they have flowers on them.

Yes but.....

Yellow flowers, look that has flowers on and you are going to pick it.

But it is a weed Will, and we don't like weeds.

But we do like flowers?

Yes.....

And that has flowers on.

Well erm....

So you are picking flowers.

Oh heck, Will! I think that I have left the kettle on, I need to go turn it off. See you later......

As our horticultural lecturer once said; there really is no such thing as a weed, but there are a lot of wrong plants in wrong places ;)

That was an amusing conversation, but one cannot fault the logic of the lad's remarks.

It's a moot point really.
I suppose all wild flowers are weeds if they invade your garden, but I always had
primroses in my garden, as they are my favourite flower and no way do I class them as weeds.

What was my son doing in your back garden?

Today's conversation went like this
"Mum can we plant sunflowers?"
No it's winter and there is not enough sun for them.
"We could get a mirror and reflect to sun onto them, so can we plant sunflowers?" - referring to a conversation last week about some town in Scandinavia i think it is, that's put a mirror on the hills to put sunlight in the town.

He's 3. God help me.

Weka, thy are stars, aren't they? And things can only get better!!! ;)

Thanks to Ria I can now tell Will that the flowers are unhappy and that I am putting them in the black bags to protect them from the sun when I move them to a happier place. :P :P :P

Phew!
