Tonight is the family meal

Postby debih » 04 Jul 2014, 10:21

Sigh.

We are meeting up with MIL, FIL, SIL and nephew (BIL is going out with friends) for a meal. It looks as though there is a chance that Mick won't make it as he has a very upset stomach and is at home in bed!

Wish me luck!

Definitely good luck - and given Mick isn't coming I take it you're driving; so not even a bottle of wine to help you through the evening? :o Or can you cab it / get a lift?

Of course you'll be very worried about Mick being home alone in his weakened state and will need to get home early for nursing duties...

Un-f-ing-believable!!!!

Did I mention that when SIL first mentioned going out for a meal she said that FIL was going to book the thai restaurant. I knew the girls wouldn't eat thai food so rang him to ask if he could change it to somewhere else. I could tell he was rather begrudgingly agreeing but I said that we would go out for a thai some other time without the girls but I would be really grateful if we could go to a really nice local pub as the girls were so looking forward to us all going out for a meal.

I rang the MIL about 10 minutes ago to say that Mick was poorly so I didn't think he'd make it tonight but it was fine as the girls and I would come. MIL commented that she wasn't feeling great either so it might be best to rearrange and she would speak to FIL.

She rang back minutes later to say it probably would be best to rearrange for another night and I said, yes that probably is best, especially if she was feeling out of sorts. And then she commented well actually they thought that the five of them would perhaps just go to the Thai as it would be easier without us.

FIL has just rung back (whilst I am ranting on here) and I have let it go to answerphone as I am so cross. I obviously sounded really pissed off when she told me as he has left a message saying that Pat said me and the girls wanted to come so could I let him know so he knows what to do.

I am speechless. No, I don't particularly want to go and I want to go even less without Mick. But I don't expect for me to ring to say Mick is ill and not going and then to get a phone call minutes later to say never mind, we'll bog off out somewhere else without you.

I am waiting to calm down before I ring him back. In fact I am going to see if Mick is awake so I can have a moan to him (now I have ranted some of it out).

I've still not rung back. I'm in a real quandry now.

I don't want to go. I never wanted to go. I wanted to go less when I knew Mick wouldn't be coming and I now want to go even less not that I know they don't actually want us to go!!!

But S and L really want to go. They will see them tomorrow at this farce of a party but this could be the only chance they get to go out for a meal. I know they will say that they will rearrange for next week but I also know that it won't happen.

So, for the sake of the girls do I ring back and say yes actually, we do want to go. It means that I will have to listen to how amazing NZ is and how everything in NZ is far superior to the UK and listen to my miserable cow of a SIL moaning about everything about the UK.

Or, do I say sod it, go without us tonight as it will probably be best if we go when Mick can be there and also Mark (BIL, who isn't going tonight) and then say nothing more about it knowing that it is highly unlikely that it will be rearranged and then they will sod off back to NZ next Sunday to be miserable there. I can take the girls out for fish and chips which usually keeps them happy.

Dilema, dilema. I've been to moan at Mick. He's just got out of bed and is having a shower as he has to nip out to price up a job. I will ring FIL back once he comes downstairs - if he'd have rung them earlier like I asked him to then I wouldn't be as cross as I currently am.
