Does anyone here shop there? There is a new one here, on a brand new trading estate built on some waste ground about a mile from here. We've never shopped at Morrisons so thought we'd go and check it out - well wow!!! Not only was it nice and quiet, very nicely set out, fresh fish and meat counters, but the prices were great!! Much cheaper than Sainsbury's, more on a par with Asda, but the food looks better quality and anyway our Asda is in a very rough part of town, so it's a bit of a circus in there at the best of times

Morrisons have recently made a very big effort to lower their prices to compete against Aldi and Lidl. They had a big slump in their sales. The customer can only benefit.

Rodo I bought a week's groceries today - I would normally spend at least £100, my trolleyful cost £68.40

The one near here is in the next town, about the same distance as Lidl, so we do sometimes go.
It's not a particularly good one, it's annoying as the Co-op ended up with two shops (when they bought out whoever it was), and sold this one to Morrisons, which is the smaller of the two. So Morrisons is cramped and always full, and the Co-op has acres of empty space I do wish they'd move somewhere bigger.

Some of their stuff is terrific, we're very impressed with the meat - when rump steak is on offer buy several lots, cut it how you want it (it tends to come in big slices) and freeze it. They have 'real' butchers working on the counters and chatting to one or two of them, they're impressed with the quality too Pork is often on offer for one cut or another and always good too

Bakery's good, veg varies - price and quality.
Ordinary groceries I don't think are any cheaper or more than anywhere else.
They started out oop North, my uncle and aunt have always gone so we'd heard about them long before they arrived down here - she's really fussy about what she buys so I knew it must be ok

I use Morrisons almost daily as it is only down the road from me
The meat is really good (butcher told me they have their own farms so they know
where it comes from)
The fish is always fresh and tastes as good as it looks. The cook in bags with free
flavoured butter saves the kitchen smelling.
Fruit and veg also good.
Bakery excellent.
Most of the other groceries i think are on a par with Tesco or Asda pricewise.
Their wine is palatable but not as cheap as some.
All in all i like them very much and the staff are friendly.

Di, I think as this is a brand new one they've deliberately made lovely wide aisles - getting around was a breeze - and like you we were really impressed with all the fresh stuff

I think the groceries are cheaper now - there were big yellow banners overhead proclaiming "Welcome to your new, cheaper Morrisons" so as Rodo said they must have made some cuts very recently

The new Morrisons have all got wide aisles and a great fruit and veg. section where it is easy to see what you want
They are altering the old ones now to try and bring them in line.

A Bradford company and big up here - ASDA's main competitor.

Their brand name stuff is just about the same as everywhere else as far as prices go, but they do excel in other areas. Their bread and bakery in general knock the spots of some other places. Loose fruit and veg is usually pretty good on quality and price, though I can not say the same for the pre-packaged stuff. Meat is where I would give them full marks. Their cuts of meat are not the 'skinny' versions I see too often, they have just the right amount of marbling. That might not be true nationwide because I think Morrisons has a policy of sourcing stuff locally where possible.

Another thing I like is the variety of stock on the shelves. A new Morrisons Local has just opened in Headingley and rather than having a gazillion tins of beans from, say, one company it has a few different varieties from two or three companies.

I often shop at Morrisons - their fruit and veg sections is the best of all the super markets and their flowers are best value for money. The only thing with our local one is that they refurbished an old one so not vast amounts of expansion space. But what they have is fantastic
