I can feel

Postby miasmum » 08 Jun 2014, 11:13

a flipping great crack down the back of my tooth. I suppose I better ring tomorrow and get it looked at as I don't want it to break when we are in London.

It is the second tooth from the back on the bottom left side. The tooth is basically all filling, with the smallest amount of tooth around it. It has been niggling for a while and the dentist checked it and said he thought it probably had a crack under the filling, but the only way to tell would be to take the filling out, and then do root canal and crown it, so we decided to just leave it until something happened, which it has. I am not going through all that, I think I shall just have the thing out and be done with it. It wouldn't look any worse, you can't really see it and all you can see is black filling anyway.

Tim looked aghast and said "What??? You'll have a great big gap"

I'm never one to advocate pulling a tooth out - but seeing as it's mostly filling, and for it to be root canal treated first ( ) before filling it again I'd say get rid.

It won't notice, right at the back - you'll be far better off without it ;)

That's the tooth that I broke off - but mine was bottom back right, not left and I've had a crown put on mine because same as you mine was all filling and just nothing to salvage. Thankfully I have a dental plan otherwise it would be stupid expensive and not sure I'd have been able to afford it :(

I had one of my back teeth out several years ago. It had been filled but it started giving me pain. I told the dentist that I did not want another filling. When he was extracting it, the tooth broke. So it took a lot longer as he had to drill into the tooth to get more leverage on the bottom bit.
Not had any problems since.

I rang this morning and they didn't have an appointment until 4th of July. I said well it doesn't hurt so if it is ok to leave it until then, thats fine, provided you can tell me it will be ok. The receptionist just kept saying, well I can't tell you that, so I kept saying well can I see a dentist to tell me that then and she kept saying we don't have an appointment until 4th of July, so I said........... it was like theres a hole in my bucket

Finally she said we have emergency clinic between 8.30-10.30 so just come down and be prepared to wait, so I said that is fine

Sat there for two hours. Dentist put a temporary filling in and I have an appointment with my own dentist on 3rd of July to discuss my options. A crown is their preferred repair, but at £219 I suppose it would be
