Ouch - feeling a bit sorry for myself

Postby meriad » 03 Jun 2014, 20:32

I broke a bit off a back bottom molar just over a week ago; managed to get an emergency appointment within two days for a temporary fix but - as I suspected at the time - it needed a crown for repairs. I have really bad teeth and most have huge fillings so there just isn't enough tooth for further repairs any more. So today was the day - I had a 16h00 appointment.

I got there more or less on time and was told they're running about 15 /20 minutes late;ended up being closer to 30 minutes. The dentist then injected the anaesthetic but it just didn't seem to take. Cut a long story short, but it took 3 and a half ampoules injected into both bottom and top to finally get to a point where the dentist could do what he needed to do, by now it was just after 17h00. The crown I've got is a pure ceramic one; no metal base and it's one they can do there and then on site; a fascinating process really until the software sort of goes wrong - cue another 20 minutes wasted to sort that. End result is that I left there about 18h30.

Now the jaw bone (at the hinge where they injected) is sore and because (sods law) the entire 3.5 ampoules took 100% effect once all the drilling was done, I managed to chew a big lump out of my cheek.

Sadly I need another two crowns (although even more sadly not surprising really - my teeth are in a terrible state) but now we know - bottom teeth need a minimum of 1/2 hour for the anaesthetic to take effect - top row nearly immediate

But for now; most of my right jaw feels like I've been punched by Mike Tyson

And all I'll say is thank goodness red wine doesn't need chewing

Nah Ria, for your right jaw it would have had to be a southpaw such as Marve Hagler.... :P

Have a gentle (left cheek) hug (((((Ria))))) but go careful on the vino, a delayed reaction to it and the anaesthetic is not what you need.

Thanks Ally and Frank - hugs gratefully received ;) and Ton, thankfully the straw wasn't needed but I made sure I followed instructions from Kaz and Di and the wine is down!

And any reaction to the wine (not that there has been one so far thank goodness) will be slept off shortly Frank x

Ouch Ria, you poor thing :(
I took a chunk out of my cheek after a dentist visit years ago - talk about agony when the anaesthetic wore off!
