A major fire

After Kaz showed us her planters with the Charles Rennie Mackintosh roses on them, I am very sorry to hear that the Glasgow School of Art, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh is ablaze at the moment. It is an iconic building, famous throughout the world.

We love his designs…………………... we even had furniture made that was based on CRM designs.

I stood right outside that building last June and took some photos.

I love CRM stuff - I have a bracelet in his design bought for me by my 3 lads.

To the world Ossie, not just Glasgow. It has even been reported in the Washington Post!!


A 2009 poll by the Royal Institute of British Architects voted it the best British building of the last 175 years.
RIBA president Stephen Hodder called the fire “an international tragedy.”

I have just seen it on the news…….what a mess.

How dreadful! I didn't see the School of Art when I was there with a friend last year but we had breakfast in the Willow Tea Room on Sauchiehall Street where the decor is is CRM.

The fire brigade are reporting that they think they have managed to prevent the destruction of the building and most of the contents. The BBC are quoting them as saying that 90% of the structure is viable and 70% of the contents have been protected.

Although a good lot of the students' work has been damaged I'm just thankful that it doesnt appear to have been as bad as it could have been.

Shortly after the fire started I had noticed a lot of fire engines, sirens blaring and had wondered what was happening. All I can say is that the fire brigade appear to have done a great job today and are owed a massive vote of thanks.
