Hi, I'm Nick. Married to Christine for thirty years one son 26, one daughter 25 who is getting married in a couple of months! We live in a village just outside Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I grew up a mile away from here - some apples fall near the tree!

I spent my career in IT (my God); got stuck in a rut, skills got outdated but it all worked out in the end; I got made redundant but got my pension, thank you Lord!

Was on the DM boards as ramblemania (still am). Never got banned from there so obviously never tried hard enough! Also on DD but rarely post on there now.

Happy to be here. :D

Still feeling my way around here; have just found this introduction thread.

Hello folks…
My online name is, (as a few recall from the Daily Fail‘s cafe), 1nicebloke..it does exactly wot it says on the tin. In the past ,Mr, Shibs, and I, (plus a few others), use to try and inject some totally mad fun and entertainment into that now clinically dead, DM Café board

My name is, Michael, or Michael David, to give me my full handle; I reach the 60th road marker in November, 2014.

Long term single type chap; (Eeee…long service caring for seriously ill, parent type folk is tantamount to social suicide). Was working full-time for 36 years, until the home caring thing demanded more of my time.

After long, long service in, Britain’s, silent army of carers; I received my ‘Honourable discharge papers’ with merits in, January 2010

Hair….‘salt ‘n’ pepper’ (increasing grey flecks).
Teeth…..all mine, except for the two missing back ones!
Weight 12st. 4lbs
Height 5’ 8”
Eyes….blue/grey
Shoe size….8
Got a mole in an odd place.
Have a few funny habits, but we won’t go into those right now.

Oh, and I sometimes get phone calls from the, BBC, as I am, Iola Williams, part-time, stand-in, stunt double.

Lovely thread, Kaz on this super friendly forum so enjoy it and eternal gratitude to the providers. Lovely, lovely photo too of you both in Corfu, obviously enjoying your hol. Would love to meet everyone but no not Brum for me I dread the place and always take the toll now. Anyway I am a John aka Mr Pep and I married her in Northern Nigeria in 1960 vowing it would be for life and indeed it was but not the way around I anticipated. I am a civil engineer with some mechanical involvement and have worked mostly abroad in Africa, Australia and mid East. We tried England a couple of times and I built a house on the second but life here had limitations not improved by the mil. :(
Retired to Marbella in 1975 with two lovely children aged 5 and 10 and did a little teaching of maths and physics at an English School then some consultancy. All too soon thoughts of English universities loomed so I bought a place in Canterbury
as I thought they might like to go to the uni there, but both turned their noses up at that and went to London and Bangor.
Both gained a PhD and now do research with some lecturing at university. Have one lovely granddaughter nearly 12 and two fine grandsons with another imminent :D I am now Executive Chairman, voluntary, of a company which owns the freehold and maintains nearly all the properties in this road, also age wise that number nine is looming . I love mending things and am so frustrated that so many now are unmendable no doubt deliberately or need great chunks of new stuff to make them work again. Still walking albeit a bit slower and generally I think "as well as can be expected" :)

Hi there I am Paul

Most of you know me as Manxie from dm/femail days I used to go to the meets so have met quite a few from femail days, and I am here and on DD too but don't post much these days. I am also on facebook as myself.

I am twice married my first wife ran off with her boss and I ended up a single dad with a 18 month and 30 month old boy and girl.

I married my present wife Kath 34 years ago and have 2 more children a boy and girl again to her boy 32 girl 22.

My first two unfortunately are both blue badge holders at 42 and 43 both disabled to some degree, one has bad knees and had operations but not successful, and son was a deep sea fisherman and injured his spine at sea and now the spine is crumbling.

Second son is a whizkid in IT works in the UK but travels a lot abroad, second daughter just today passed her degree course and will soon be a qualified nurse with a degree.

I am now 67 this year not as healthy as I would like I rattle when I walk as I take hundreds of tablets a month and now on an injection each day and morphine patches for pain, but still waking up each morning thankfully, and still as daft as a brush but a big softie with it.

I have been retired now almost 10 years and my wife retires soon after 46 years unbroken service in nursing firstly on wards recently as management, so looking forward to buying a bungalow this year (heaven no stairs) then gradually sorting out this house of 5 floors and 19 rooms eventually selling it on or possibly refurbishing it into flats as Daughter and her b/f still have a flat at the top of the house yet, so no rush to sell, as we hope they will save hard for place of their own as they get here rent free.

I am cheeky as most will agree but would give the shirt off my back if someone needed it more than me.

I try to love everyone as I would like them to love me, and that is my motto

nice to belong here with people I count as friends, some of us go back about 15 years now.

Love Manxie xx
