Only know the basics of this as never reported in Turkey, sadly about 6,000 Turkish children go missing here every year (mostly organ transplants) :!: :!:

But have always wondered were the parents ever prosecuted under which ever law applies to'' abandoning'' your children to go out drinking and eating with friends :?:

And if not why not :?:

Yes Kaz very distressing, but is very big business over this side of the world (not onlyTurkey btw) Although often times it transpires that the child was reported ''taken'', police involved etc and it later becomes known that they were sold by their own parents - usually Fathers/brothers.

Turkey in parts being extremely wealthy and at the other end of the scale if you can't find work - you and your family don't eat - no social welfare, housing, health care etc. So if you have 12 to feed and no chance of a job - sell one and the rest can maybe survive :!:

Although must stress that most Turkish people are modern in outlook, honest, hardworking and decent, there will always be those who cling to the ''old ways'' mainly girls are chattels to be married off, sold etc. İn some parts dowry's are still required.

So yes a very sad state of affairs

I wonder how many of us on here would admit to committing popping down to the bar after a long day.? Door locked securely however, and children in bed

They weren't in a hotel room, the apartment was close to a busy road, and the Tapas Bar was in a gated área of the Ocean Club (where you show your club card to enter). That is the misconception with this case, the Ocean Club isn't a of a "run of the mill" resort, it is a series of pools, restaurants and sports places that are in the actual village of Praia da Luz, the accomodation is mixed with the local villagers, pubs and everything else that make up a small town. The McCanns have even said, that the sliding door at the back of the apartment was left unlocked in case there was a fire so the children could leave. It's all very sad, but it is also been very misrepresented to what really did happen. :( The night before the lady who lived (permanent resident) in the upstairs apartment had actually contacted the reception as she was so concerned that a child had been crying in apartment 5a for an hour and 45 minutes. The media from the word go has been very selective to what was reported.

I know you are very clued up on the area Applecheeks and I completely agree about the selective reporting

From the very beginning the reporting used words such as "complex" or "compound" or "village" and they gave the impression of an enclosed space - an upmarket Pontin's if you will. That obviously gave the impression of added safety for those staying there.

The truth is that only the leisure amenities are in a gated area, and then only accessible through one controlled entrance pavilion. The apartments are in public areas. The one used by the McCanns is at the junction of two public roads and is a short walk from the entrance pavilion. The front entrance opens on to a walled parking area, the rear has a yard down a flight of eight or nine steps from the patio doors' balcony. Its entrance gate is from a public road. To get from front to back means a walk across the parking bays, out onto the street then down another street to the rear gate. There is no alley as the apartment wall and the boundary wall and are one and the same.

To get in to the children's bedroom an intruder would have had to go from the street, through the yard gate, then up a flight of steps, then into the flat through the unlocked patio doors, then into the bedroom. The most obvious way out would have been to retrace their steps.

We were never told any of this.

There has been so much xenophobia. This is the vídeo when Martin Grimes who was brought from SY police was in the McCanns apartment. The dogs were taken to many places including Robert Murats house and the only places they alerted to was in apartment 5a and the the hire car. We can't even blame 'Jonny Foreigner' police for this. Martin Grimes the dog handler is now retired from the British police and does private work including a big case last year for the FBI
