New jacket!

Postby Diflower » 03 Jan 2013, 13:53

I needed to replace a very old jacket, used in cold weather, completely windproof, not too thick and bulky...been looking for ages. I wanted something reasonably ok-looking, but had to be practical for dog-walking, the forest, etc.

This morning found this...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr cannot work out how to do links
Anyway, if you can be bothered to google 'Target Dry Astana jacket' that's it :) It was in the sale, reduced from £70 to £46 which I thought was pretty good :)
The old jacket has a hood that folds into the collar, which would have been nice, but this is a better hood - you really need one with the strong cold sea winds ;)

Edit to try the link.

I really like that Di!
It's hard to find a nice waterproof coat that's not too anorak-y and pastel-y (not at all practical for dog walks!) isn't it?!
I got this one a few months ago, I paid £80 in the Jack Wolfskin shop in Birmingham as they had a sale on

Oh yes I like that one too Jo :)
I was also tempted by an aubergine waxed one, with a cape but over the shoulders, but it was ever so heavy!
Forgot to say, I got the liquorice colour ;)

Those are really nice :D 8-) :D

I pinched a jacket from Becks, for dog walking and the like. I bought her one of those quilted puffa-style ones from Next in black to wear at my mum's funeral but B hadn't worn it since, as she prefers her pleather one or her bright purple one with a furry hood. So I seconded it for myself - it's very light but very warm too - no hood though which is a pain

Oooh I like the look of that - I would have bought the purple one. I have a good one that I bought in TK Maxx a couple of years ago, the year of the big snow. I got it for about €40 in say, August, and then thought I was probably mad for buying something so warm....boy was I glad of it that winter!! It's getting a bit worn now, and I find I have to fight against buying anything that looks too "old lady" (in my opinion  )

Ooh, I like that Di :D
I bought this one last year from Land's End. It was cheaper than the price shown here. It isn't very glam, but it is the warmest coat I have ever had and is perfect for those doggy days :D

That's lovely Loz, I've recently bought a down-filled Columbia jacket which is beautifully warm on cold dog walks  It was actually the most expensive coat I've ever bought but when it was cold a few weeks ago it really proved it's worth.

I used to have a beautiful down-filled coat that the ex bought for me in New York, mind you it was so very warm it didn't get used all that much! It took up so much room, when I moved down here it went in the decluttering frenzy :)

Osc I would have got the purple, but they only had the liquorice one and I wasn't prepared to come home and start searching online, having found it :D

Great selection of jackets here. I'm still wearing my ten year old fur trimmed hooded Parka but then I haven't got a dog so avoid the wet at all times

Yes Osc-'Old Lady' is a look to be very wary of indeed! I notice on holidays women my age wearing ghastly dirndle gathered skirts and unflattering blouses with puff sleeves making them look so dated and just older than they are.
