I have a problem to solve.

I am trying to work this out
The Doctor has put me on a course of antib`s to try and help
this Rhinitis and cough i suffer from. This is ok as i take this
tablet in the morning.
At the same time he has given me Gaviscon to take at bedtime
for the reflux i get in the night but he has also given me a strong
pain killer to take at bedtime so i can get some relief from the
Sciatic pains that keep me awake.
Now the problem is that it says you cannot take this pain killer
with any type of indigestion medicine
What do i do??? Stay awake with pains in my legs or stay awake
with reflux--answers on a postcard please

Tricky one I suppose it depend on which is worse

Ask the GP to give you another pain killer that can be taken with the indigestion med. I can't believe he prescribed two drugs that shouldn't be taken at the same time but told you to do so. Has he not read the label?

Or check with him or the pharmacist to see if you can take the pain killer say 2 hours before you go to bed and the Gaviscon just as you go; so you have a decent time gap

The pharmacists in our surgery tends to be more clued up than the doctors on these sorts of things, so that would be my first port of call. It could be that the info on the packets is "super safe" and that they can be taken, as Ria says, with a decent time gap or the pharmacist migh be able to offer alternatives for you to speak with your GP about.

only just seen this, hope you managed to speak to the pharmacist, they are definitely the person to ask with queries like this.

I came across a lot of things when on placement in hospitals regarding prescription queries and was always sent to ask pharmacist

Only just seen this Lissie. I never trust gps anyway, so, your rhinitis I wonder if he was sure it is bacterial sinusitis and not allergic rhinitis? if the latter an antibio would not do much good and as for Gaviscon there is lots against it. I too get nocturnal pain quite often in one leg which is relieved by getting up and standing on for a few seconds, I wonder if yours is the same. I brush my teeth with a little bicarb of soda before bed and never have indigestion in the night. Have tried several things for the leg pain including amitriptyline but soon stopped that as it made me too drowsy the next day. The only thing I take regularly and c an recommend is a suppository anti inflammatory drug like Voltarol in a small dose. Not however too good for kidneys if anyone has a prob there.
