Free electric car charging point

Postby Gal » 09 Apr 2014, 18:12

Last week we were getting ready to go out for a meal when we had a guy come to the door offering the above.

He inspected our garage, which has an existing power point, and said our home was ideal for putting one of these points in. I had never heard of this before, but apparently is it all completely free (govt grants) and will add value to the house should we ever wish to sell - and you don't have to have an electric car, but if we ever change it in future we have the point in place.

I have to admit to being very cynical and looked into it, but the company seems kosher so they are fitting it on Friday.

Anyone else been approached in this way?

No never! The problem with those cars is how long it takes to make a long journey! The lack of charging points but also factoring the recharging time into the journey :? :?

I can't see the harm in having it fitted I suppose, as long as it is really free.............. :? :?

I've not heard of that either. I wonder if it's just a trial in your part of the country?

I am not against electric cars, so long as they run on 24/7 "Green" electricity, but they don't. They are as environmentally damaging as 1950s diesel tractors.

We are struggling to produce enough electricity to power our homes, never mind cars.

Get a power point free, fine, but get a windmill to power it as well. If you don't get enough wind power you don't drive. Simples.

Well I can't really see the point as I don't intend getting an electric car (although the miles I do, it would probably suit me fine! ) but if it's free (and I've read and re-read the papers) then why not?

British Gas, for one, seems to be promoting an home installation scheme using the Government's subsidy, but I've not seen or heard anything of it around here, despite the fact that Coventry, I think it is, is supposed to be trialling city-wide public charging points. I'm not sure that I'd want to take it up unless I was seriously contemplating buying an electric car, (thinking about compatability, etc).
