A great weekend and another to come!

Postby Osc » 06 Apr 2014, 20:28

Back home after a lovely weekend in Cork celebrating my brother's 70th. It all went really well, he cooked on Friday night for us, our sister and two of his friends, one of his daughters came over too, it was very nice and relaxing (although we ate a bit late and I find it hard to digest meat when eaten late so lost some sleep  ) Although Friday was his birthday, yesterday was the main celebration in his eldest daughter's house. Miss Osc, SIL and Michael drove down yesterday and I was just so proud of Michael - they were staying with the eldest daughter and he was incredibly well behaved. He's quite a shy little boy but settled down very quickly, and had all the men playing football like they were little boys too  Even though he was the total centre of attention and had been bought presents because it was his first visit to Cork and my nieces have not seen much of him, he didn't act up and although he stayed up a bit late, he went to bed with no bother and no fuss. Today we went to my other niece's house for brunch, once again he was just so good - tonight he and his Mum and Dad are staying in a nice hotel as a treat because SIL has a meeting in Cork tomorrow. Miss Osc texted me to say that he loves the hotel, enjoyed his meal and settled into bed happily. Sometimes it's hard to believe he is just four, but I suppose he spends so much time with adults.

So the family party yesterday was lovely, my niece had got a friend who is a caterer to do some very good food and it was so nice to just spend time with the nieces and their husbands - for very complex reasons, we never saw too much of them when they were growing up so they don't know myself and my sister that well, but since my brother's wife died, things are so much better and I also really enjoyed Miss Osc getting to spend time with her cousins, her only ones on my side. Got home around 7.30pm and these days, it takes about ½ an hour to get the house back to normal after viewing. I think it's early to bed tonight.........and it's Blackpool next weekend, us and 20 others going to dance the weekend away :D :D

One of the presents he got was Jenga, which I've never played before and I proved to be quite good at it - I played with Michael and his Dad and won one, but in the second game the flipping tower fell over when I wasn't even touching it - small video on FB although I'm not that pleased that I have such a horsey laugh

That's lovely Osc, and it's so good knowing you can take little Michael anywhere isn't it :)
It was always a source of pride to us that we could take his boys to eat out or visit big family do's and they would know how to behave :)

I grew up with lots of contact with cousins and second cousins which was lovely having no brothers or sisters, although not every day it was a sense of family :)

It sounds wonderful Osc, I love extended family get togethers :) 8-) They don't happen often but I find them really special...... 8-)

Michael is lovely, it is so nice these days to see small children who know how to behave in company :)
