New glasses

I picked my new specs up today. I hate them!!!

They are for close up stuff - reading, playing on the tablet, phone, etc. they are slightly blue tinged - something to do with screens.

They magnify everything slightly and do make it crisper and clearer but they are so different to my computer glasses. I put them on when I get to work and take them off when I leave. I can see to read work on the computer talk to people and walk around.

With these ones I can't look into the distance they make everything blurred. I keep looking over the top of them like a granny.

I'll get used to them I'm sure.

And they do look rather cool and sexy though!

I hate, hate, glasses.

I have two pairs: distance and reading. For reading I need them for small print at close range, but I can happily read a book at arms length. For distance I am OK up to about 120 - 150m, then it all becomes a bit mushy.

At my last app't the optician suggested "these" - to do everything - at only £phenomenal!

A few days later I was in DiscountUK and found a varifocal pair that do most reading and most distance for £1.85. Sorted!

Debih I have a pair just for sitting here at the desktop - because it's a different distance to normal reading, if I get up and walk around it's very weird
I have varifocals in theory for everything else, and they do take away the problem of switching from looking along the aisle of a shop, then looking at the price of an item But tbh they never seem exactly right for anything
I can't have anything cheap because the two eyes are so different

Eeeeek!!!! WM I don't want to frighten you but you could be doing your eyes permanent damage by using 'off the shelf' varis You do need to have them correctly measured as each frame is different and your pupil distance will not be the same as Joe Bloggs so please don't think you have saved yourself some money

Debih I'm guessing your prescription has changed hence the need for reading glasses? They will only be for close work, not looking around the room. Computer ones are classed as intermediate, anything at arms length is so. I have a weird prescription too Di - never worn varis although I would love to, no more chopping and changing

I do love them Gal, they're transitions too (is that the right word?) - go from light to dark, so brilliant for here where we do get very bright light

As soon as I had posted I thought of you, Gal, and knew I would be getting a telling off..... and I was right!

I mainly wear my prescrip goggles and only keep the cheapos in my pocket when I go out.... but point taken. I'll go and see the optician - promise.

Spot on Gal.

He told me that my prescription had only changed a little bit and I'm fine to carry on using my computer glasses at work and use the new ones for close work. I've got used to them a bit more now.

He also told me I had really good eye sight. I was quite flattered until he added "for your age"!!!!!!!!!!

Yep Di - transitions is right - my right and left eyes are so disparate that varis 'probably' won't work for me, I've yet to try them as I haven't seen a frame I like since my eye test the other week.....we optical advisers are the worst people ever to choose frames

Debih; I have the same problem - I was prescribed glasses for reading. Same as you they're for close up stuff only and I can't use them for the computer or anything else (and I sometimes think it would be good to have a pair for that distance as well) so I hardly ever bother with them

I don't often bother with glasses for actual reading, but took the measurement from this seat to the pc screen to get cheapo-framed reading glasses, so they're exactly right
Varifocals are tricky for the pc as you're constantly looking up and down, but it's just too far for me to see properly
