I thought that I had no chance of making the bus because of the traffic. Suddenly there was a bit of a crunch and a brake in the traffic on my side of the road and when I eventually crossed the I could see an old couple, who had also been trying to cross but in front of the bus, still talking to the driver, so I got a move on and made it.
The couple were sat next to me and in their conversation I heard her say "I think it was our fault" to which he replied "Leave it."
A short while later the driver pulled in to a lay-by and came back to ask the couple for their details - just in case. He explained that the accident could be reported and he simply wanted their views. They refused and got off; I obliged.
The police have just phoned to say that they will need a statement and can they call round tomorrow - like I have a choice? If you hear the ringing of chains as I post from now on you know why.
