The visit to the vets today....

was wonderful. :P :P :P :P :P

I saw the same vet again that had operated on her. He hasn't seen the leg for about 3 weeks. He unwrapped her bandage and his first comment was "bloody hell".

I was a little concerned until he then added "she's some sort of miracle dog as this is looking fantastic. I'm completely amazed". :P :P :P :P

He showed me exactly where the cut had been - it was much longer than I originally thought and he said all of it was right down to the bone - the leg was pretty much hanging off. It has healed amazingly and most of the fur has grown back.

The toe (that was only hanging on by a tiny flap of skin) is completely healed and the whole foot is covered by hair again (they had shaved her whole leg).

He took the last three stitches out and has bandaged it all up again - for the last time. He said that it was really ready for the bandage to come off now but he agreed with me that it should come off on a Monday when they are open for the full week, not the day before a bank holiday. So it is coming off next Monday instead.

He said that the leg is very weak and it will take her a while to start using it properly again - she also has to build up the muscle on the thigh as that has pretty much disappeared.

I spoke to him about the food and he agreed about keeping her on the prescription food for a while longer as we know that she is keeping it down and that will give her little throat a rest. He recommended a couple of other foods that I can buy from Pets at Home and said to try those, slowly mixing them in with the ID at first.

We don't have at Pets at Home on our doorstep but I am taking the girls clothes shopping on Friday and there is one there so I shall get a few cartons of the two types of recommended food and when we find the one that suits her best I know that the Head of L's school will happily pick me up what I need as she lives pretty much next door to one and is in there for her own dog food all the time.

And we weighed her. She was 13.25kg last Thursday and was 13.55kg today. The nurses have said that when we aren't going all the time to have the bandages changed anymore I can just pop in any time I want to get her weighed on their scales.

:P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

Set back on the food front today. Up came breakfast and lunch. I've made her skip dinner and will try her again later.

Not sure why as she has been fine for 3 days but mum said she was terrified by the fireworks last night and that her tummy was really rumbling after she had her breakfast this morning.

Two steps forward, one step back.

I still have blips with my two, especially Mia, when she just won't eat and I panic. I now try and think, if it is this bad in 24 hours I will panic and so far it has always been 100% better by then
