Feijoa Wine

Postby Weka » 16 Mar 2014, 10:24

Finally, (and I mean Finally!!!) bottled my feijoa wine that I tried to make in 2012 tonight. It has been sitting in the demijohns all this time.

All 32 bottles of it. I was tipping it down the sink thinking that it was an interesting experiement that should have been tipped out a year ago when I decided that I should actually have a taste of it, and was pleasently surprised. it's only about 1000x better than I expected it to be. Shame I wasted about 2 bottles down the sink!

So who wants a glass?

Weka, when we made wine a lot of it used to get "stored" in demi-johns in a cool dark place. We racked it off the sediment from the fermentation into a clean d-j and simply stuck a new air lock in. A few months rest always improved the body, the taste - everything.

Shame about the lost two bottles. ;) :P

WM I don't feel so bad now. :D Though I should probably have kept the water in the airlock.......

The feijoas are just starting to fall from the trees again, so this time i'm going to scoop the flesh out of the skins first and then freeze it till spring.

Water in an air lock, now that is a good idea...... ;) :P

I also like the one about freezing the fruit. A lot of fruits break down when they defrost and that could help to release deeper flavours more easily - should be interesting.
