Mrs.e uses a small bottle of nail varnish remover which she gets from Nails Inc.It is in a pink bottle with a capacity of 60ml. She rubs a finger inside the plastic bottle which has a sponge impregnated withe the remover fluid. Seems to work very well.

I've had them done and am really, really pleased with them. I'll try and get a photo tomorrow - I tried today but didn't realise how hard if was to hold an iPad in one hand to get a photo of the other.

They are short - my nails are strong but brittle and usually quite long. But I'd had a few break recently so I asked her to take them all short to the same length.

I had the gel polish in a lovely purpley brown colour. I had a file and cuticle thingy done and then the polish. It looks just like normal polish but you put them under a uv light to set (or an led not sure which). She said without the light the polish wouldn't set. It was dry immediately - no faffing about trying not to smudge them.

She said it should last two to three weeks. It shouldn't chip. It will just start to look odd where my nails grow and you can see the ridge at the base. So how long it lasts depend on how quickly my nails grow.

I have booked to go back in 3 weeks but can change it if I feel the need doing before.

She said to remove it at hone I need to buff the nail, soak cotton wool in acetone remover and wrap foil round my fingers. Or get it done there for £5.

It cost £15 and the next one will be £20 - £5 to remove and £15 for new polish. If it lasts 3 weeks I think that's pretty good.

I've been out tonight and loads of people said how nice they looked.

Just come across this and am curious what you decided on Debih? Did you go for your appointment

For what it's worth, I have Gel nails (make is BioGel)... it's like a thick nail polish that is then hardened / cured under UV light. The polish is painted straight on your own nail - which then grow normally. Depending on your nail growth, you then have to go approximately every three weeks to have the gel replaced as the nails grows out, ie you can see at the back of the nail bed how much your nail has grown as the colour moves away from the skin (if that makes sense)

What I usually do is start off with a paler colour and then three weeks later I go a bit darker and then three weeks later a lot darker. Going from light to dark means I don't have to soak off (ie soak my nails in acetone to remove the gel layer), but Alex (who does my nails) simply files the gel down and then varnishes straight over. If you're going from a dark colour to a light one you have to soak off as the lighter colours won't cover the dark ones.

I love my nails and am quite hard on them. If you're doing lots of housework involving detergents and water etc then it's wise to use gloves as they can weaken the adhesiveness of the gel; but when it comes to gardening I just get on with it - I also don't wear gloves.

I went for the gel polish in the end. A really deep chocolate brown colour.

I take a photo on my iPad and I don't know how to get it from my iPad to here.

I'm really pleased a week on you can see where my nails have grown and I'm not sure whether it'll last for the full three weeks and I wait to see it should do another week. At least.

I think next time I'm going to give myself a mini manicure and really do my cuticles. She did it for me that I think I could probably do better - get them as low as there are really go.

I'm very impressed with the non-chip though.

I'll definitely be having it done again.
