We've only left Billy once, with John's Mom when we went to Cornwall the first Summer after we'd got him (and I don't think he'd be invited back again, to stay anyway, after the sofa incident  ).
Anyway, we went to pick him up and he totally ignored us for about 15 minutes and carried on playing with his toys...and then suddenly he seemed to realise it was us and went wild

Oh gosh my first dog Pepper, we put her in kennels first just for a night, because we already had a holiday booked later in the year.
It went fine, and they loved her at the kennels. She got terribly car sick so we never chose to take her with us much anyway and knew we'd need to be able to leave her there. But when I went to collect her, it was amazing, she came flying out and leapt at me, making that funny whimpery noise, it was wonderful :D
She was like that every time, even though the kennels actually had her in their house most of the time :D
