And another holiday booked!

Postby debih » 29 Dec 2012, 10:09

I've booked our October holiday. It's my favourite holiday of the year - a week in the Lake District, chilling out, doing a bit of walking and a lot of nothing.

I did look at different options this time as we have been to the same place two years running now.

I found a wooden lodge that I liked near Ambleside (had a shared pool, sauna and jacuzzi) but on reading the reviews, which were all brilliant, someone commented that you weren't allowed to leave a dog unattended at any time. We rarely leave her in but it is nice to have the option. So that one was out.

Saw another in a village near Coniston which was stunning but when I looked on Google Earth you have to walk a mile to the nearest pub/restaurant (which isn't a problem) along the main road which isn't lit and doesn't have pavements (which is a problem with two children and a dog).

Then I found another one in the village we love which sounded great but has a shared garden - not ideal for the dog.

So I have gone for the old faithful. Its excellent for us - three big bedrooms, enclosed garden, paddock for the dog to run in, cattle grid on the gate so she can't get out onto the road, big family bathroom and ensuite bathroom, park really close by, beach only 10 minutes away, open fire and a choice of shops, pubs and restaurants. And fantastic walking.

We go on 26 October.

:D

We always go for our old faithful too, it'll be interesting with Billy this year as the farm dog, Harry, is a daily visitor and he seems to round up any visiting dogs and gives them a guided tour

Sounds great, Debih.

We have had some wonderful holidays in the Lake District. What I like about it is the fact that there is so much scenery there - you only have to go over the brow of a hill and you are rewarded with a completely new scene - not like Scotland, where you can travel for ages without a change in the view.

I'm not keen on the Lake District, I prefer your Cornish holiday. Wish I had the option of going to old faithfuls though. Tim never wants to go back to the same place, going to Mevagissey twice was a miracle and it makes me sad I may never go to Meva again :o

I prefer Cornwall to the Lake District too. John loves it and is there today. I'm not much of a 'static' scenery lover, seen one hill and lake and you've seen them all, but I do love to watch the sea and the Cornish coastline is stunning.
Our reason for returning to the same place is that the beaches are ideal for the boys with the body boards and the farm where we stay is lovely, the cottages are very clean and very reasonably priced.

I hope you get back to Mevagissey sometime Shell, it's such a lovely place.

I much prefer Cornwall to the Lakes but I love the Lakes in October. I find it so relaxing.

We do very little - on the first full day I take the girls to B&M Bargains (which is in the nearby town) and they top up on tat that keeps them entertained.

We get up late, have a big breakfast, go for a walk on the beach, go home and watch daytime tv in front of the fire while the girls cover themselves in tattoos, etc from B&M and then walk to the pub for a drink or a meal in the evening. Where we stay is so far off the beaten track there are no really decent towns around and its a hell of a trek to get to the touristy areas of Windermere, etc.

In Cornwall we are much more likely to be out and about all day sightseeing and although it is always (in my opinion) the better holiday, it isn't half as relaxing.

So I feel very pleased that we are going to both this year.

I am glad you said that Jo, seen one lake and hill and you've seen them all, as that is my feeling too

Both your holidays sound great Deb.

While I was editing the quiz, we have booked another cruise in January 2014 to the Caribbean again.
Already have two booked for 2013 in July and September to the Mediterranean.
