Lidl v Tesco

I got most of my Christmas food from Lidl, and know for a fact it would have been a lot more at Sainsbury's The trouble is because I can walk to Sainsbury's I can go whenever the mood takes me, but the Lidl is awkward to get to on foot so I need to wait until Mick can take me. I should use it more often though, the savings are pretty big

We shop at Aldi quite often - in fact we are going there tomorrow.

Not only do we save a lot of money there, but we think some of their products are
better than those at Tesco or Sainsburys, particularly meat and fish.

We don't have a Lidi store near us.

Lidl devotee for many yaers, first in Marbella where it was so popular that the check out queues often reached to the back of the shop.
Lots of stuff is very good but you have to watch out a bit and the only other criticism is that if you see something unusual and very nice you have to buy it there and then because you can never find it again.

Another Aldi fan here, especially for cooked (Continental) meats, condiments and some tinned foods..... and booze. Unfortunately it takes two buses to get there, which means a big shop is out of the question.

The Lidl in our town doesn't seem to do much. It's always practically empty when I go. Aldi however is always heaving. I do 95% of my shopping at Aldi now, with an occasional excursion to Sainsbutys for the few items that I can't get at Aldi.

The Lidl near us is the same, although their veg is very good.
Aldi's prices for eggs (£1 for large half dozen) and milk are very good. Their meat is supposed to be OK too. Their booze can be very good indeed and reasonable. Their champagne is excellent and only £12.99 a bottle and over christmas went down to £9.99 a bottle! They have good reds; I like the Andara, some like the Toro Loco Tempranillo. In fact the latter is restricted to a maximum of 3 bottles per customer in some stores. Glen Orrin whisky is good too as is one of their gins.
I always notice the difference in price when we shop at Aldi.

Is there much difference between Aldi and Lidl? Not been in the latter although there are both in the same town as I go when I do my fortnightly shop in Asda.

I currently can buy 15 free range eggs in Asda for just over £2 - we go through a lot of eggs

I never go to Sainsburys as I think their prices are high, same with M&S. Tescos occasionally for special offers but not generally for a big shop. All the supermarkets here are a car ride away, there are none in the village - unless you count our ridiculously priced Co-op!! Just as well I can drive

I get the impression that Aldi and Lidl are very similar but as I only go to Lidl I don't really know.

However I am going to try Aldi out tomorrow so I'll let you know.

I do think they differ place to place though. The three Lidls I have been in around us are good but I hate the one near our head office in Coalville.

But then again we are between two Morrisons, both around 10 miles away from us. I love one but hate the other!

We do our main shop at Aldi now. I used to just pop in for a few things to supplement the Asda shop and then it got that I needed a basket for a few more things, and then I progressed to going there first, filling a trolley and topping up in Asda.
A new one recently opened in the town where my parents live, along with a Tesco, so now I use that one and top up at Tesco.

Our local Lidl closed last year. It was always quiet in there though. I've used that one and two others - Stafford and Lichfield. The products and prices don't seem to differ that much from Aldi but Aldi always seems tidier, cleaner and brighter. The Lidls, around here at least, look a bit tired and grimey.

I am jealous - both Lidl and Aldi are about 1/2 hour drive away for me - and that's on a good day. Tesco is about 5 mins from the station so I tend to pop in there after work. But more and more I find that I do most of my shopping at either Tesco or Sainsbury because they have the catfood on special and that usually costs more than the food I buy for myself

But if I had a Lidl or Aldi closer then I'd definitely do most of my shopping there

I tried the new Aldi today. Very impressed.

I think I might alternate between Aldi and Lidl for a while to see which I prefer. Lidl is closet by about 5 minutes.
